Are the FWC doing that much wrong
« on: June 30, 2013, 10:24:16 pm »
I am quite happy with the FWC at the moment,

but with recent posts with people trying to discredit them, are the FWC doing that much wrong, Personally I don't think so, especially after reading this article, they seem to be hitting all the right notes, apart from the members directory

Just read the list! Am I missing something?
Will it help me gain more work?

IMO unless they give you 10%off gardiners products its useless! ;)
RA's and Method statement templates are 2 a penny.
Insurance is already covered/paid for by any good windie company.
You do get a sticker for your van though I believe.

It sounds like they do a bit for medium to large commercial companies!

As for yellow pages whats that all about.

To make it worse they said it on news night.

I remember when Philip Hanson wanted to look at their accounts; which he was able to do since he was a FWC member at the time.  They fobbed him off again and again until his membership ran out; then refused to let him see their accounts (he had an accountancy background).

I know there was 'politics' going on with this, but if they had nothing to hide, then should've been open about it.

It was big on here at the time; several years ago; and then there was that business about them selling their office premises; I don't know all the details, but it sounded shady.

So, for that reason, and because I don't think they're relevant to my humble operation; I'm out.

Do you think with the APWC on the verge of starting up had something to do with Philip's motives ?

Yes i'm sure Philip wanted to see another, better organisation, if not from within then from the outside.

That time reminded me of gary glitters 'do you wanna be in my gang.' It was a resounding no for me because I didn't want to contribute to a hierarchy who acted like civil servants.

As a sole trader who has enough common sense to find a solution to my need, I don't want to join at this time. But I think the apwc was a big wake up call for the fed.

Bryan dolby has really been the only voice of the fed that I am aware of. And i think he has become more open and inclusive in what he says.

People will discredit them regardless. But like anything that wants your money each year, you will either want it or you won't.
