the people my wife woks for have had a huge extension done with a new limestone floor in the kitchen, it has been sealed with a product called filasatin, is this product any good ?.

Wouldn't be my first choice but yes it is a good product.

It's OK it would not be my choice because I disagree with topical sealers on natural stone especially wax finishes.  The chances are that the stone was bought at Mandarin Stone because they recommend Fila all the time.  In a Kitchen  a penetrating sealer would be better. However if Mandarin are involved it may have had a penetrating sealer first before the Satin because one thing they are good at is selling product to go with their stone.  That said Topps Tiles flog stone and Fila as well so it could have anything under it if they were involved

My bet is that Mandarin Stone sold it!  Topps Tiles would never think of aftercare

A thread from a while ago, but worth re-opening and getting some comments on....

Stone-soap is my choice. It has an ingredient in that reacts with the Calcium, so, no need for over priced, fancy label sealers.

Not only is it a good sealer for Limestone and other calcium based stones, it is good for regular maintenance too.

My understanding is that stone soap only really works as a waterproofing agent and isnt ideal for kitchens.

Mainly because it is vegetable oil based so isnt resistant to fat splashes or spills.

We use and supply loads of stone soap but on kitchen floors always apply an impregnator and then get them to maintain with the stone soap for a belt & braces approach.

Perfectly correct!  We have also found there is also a tremendous difference in performance from one stone soap to another!  That said we haven't tried everything  only about 15 different brands!

If you are talking HOT fat splashes, is there a sealer that will seal against HOT fat and / or Oil?
I don't know of any.
As far as water resistance, however, Stone Soap is good. Crawshaws sell a good one, makes the seller on ebay look expensive!

There is a difference in price for a reason!  Klindex Stone Soap is excellent but we have other brands for less than £20 for 5 litres as well!

Different people have different views on stone soap.

Essentially it is a soap made with different fat acids.  Different manufacturers make it in different ways with different concentration strengths.  Ultimately stone soap is especially good on any calcite based floor such as Marble, Travertine & Limestone.  The soap when diluted preferably with warm water reacts with the calcium in the stone and forms a topical type seal.  It is excellent as a regular maintenance product and particularly good when a floor has ideally been deep cleaned and sealed with an impregnating sealer.  You can then used Stone Soap on top as a regular maintenance product there is usually a slight improvement on the shine if used correctly and in correct dilution.
