Just a thought filter question
« on: June 16, 2013, 06:41:49 pm »
Has anyone who is  Di only
Ever put a carbon and sediment  filter
In front of a Di as you would with ro?

I'm ditching my ro due to waste water and water metre
And trying to thing if a good way to get
The tap tds down

It makes sense to me.  ???

Thoughts please people
keep it simple

Maybe you do but surely it will take some muck
Out of the water before Di  ???

Hence making the resin last a little longer

As I say its just a thought  ;)

my hippy neighbour has just bought one for drinking water. The blurb says that it doesn't strip out essential minerals from the water.

My guess is that it won't make much difference to tds or life of the resin.
if it is dirty it is fair game

Without an RO you'll be going through resin like its going out of fashion when my membrane started to fail it was producing 36 TDS and making approx 700 litres per day a vessel lasted approx 12 to 14 days and you only get 3 fills to a bag of resin at £70 this I feel would cost you a lot more

Wow your figures seem very high Darren
My membranes are shot and producing 045 and
About at last check till I depends my tds meter in the Ibc
I chance my resin about once per month now
So I recon if I go Di only I will only have to change
Resin every couple of weeks  but I will knock
2/3 of me water bill

Well I'll leave it to you to do the maths of how much it costs to run with say an RO pumping out water at 003 so no resin required as to using resin only but if you change once a month at 045 then your looking at changing every 10 days or so as the tap TDS is nearly 3 times higher.

Have you thought of using an RO that doesn't waste as much water as the Merlin mate?

Colin
My TDS is usually about 90 although in December it went up to 150 and is just getting back to normal and I still only used 2 bags a year.
Ask your supplier for an abatement on return to sewer charges.
Tell them you transport the water away from your premises for cleaning windows (they may insist on a sub-meter being fitted).
They pay for  1 bag of resin a year for me now!!
