twin operator hot water
« on: June 15, 2013, 05:10:23 pm »
Righto folks,

How do you run a twin operator machine and get hot water?

I know some of you guys have just spit a single pump outlet and run it through a boiler before its split into two guns, but how do you run a proper twin port machine(zeta) through a hotbox?

Mainly asking for gum jobs, drop the revs, shrink the nozzle size and get some heat through it, twin operator should blast through the gum.

Also, what kind of KVA does a hot box run? Was thinking of just getting a hotbox internals (everything except the actual hotbox cover) and a small genny but not sure what the hotbox runs at.

Matt

I've not done this but I guess that you could in theory have one on hot & one on cold.

The Thor is twin outlet, split to 21 per side, run one of the outlets through the hotbox and the other cold, just make sure both of the lances are pressed at the same time.

I ain't advocating this method but it should work

And or then run a second hotbox for the second operator

Rob,

I did think about that, but there must be a way to link into the pump outlet, before it goes to the twin ports. I havent really had a good look, but because the flow is going to be restricted with low revs/smaller nozzles, even when you have two ports running the water should get decent heat.

Was just thinking of going pump outlet-unloader-hotbox-twin ports-cash in my pocket

Put a block on the one outlet and adjust the unloader?

The only reason ill be wanting to run heat through it is when i do gum jobs, and need twin ops.. Ive got a hotbox on the van mount for any other single op jobs..

So need both ports, and hot water.. sounds simple..

Lee kenny will be along in a minute with BDCS and they will make it sound easy..

Find the pump outlet and trace it towards the manifold where it splits into two, preferably after the unloader and plumb the hot box into there. If you put it before the unloader then you will heat the tank when unloading - you can do this but you have to keep an eye on it or it'll cook the pump. Twin hot boxes are the best answer as they could both be run off a 1KW suitcase. An inverter would also work if your washer has a proper charge circuit

Cheers mate, thats pretty much where i thought i could plumb it in, although i wasnt 100% sure.

2 boilers it pretty much out of the question as the cost Vs the time used is just too much.

Would one 21lpm boiler heat sufficiently a twin operator (30lpm split) running low revs, smaller nozzles, lower flow?

Trial it - work out what temperature you need to remove gum, run the machine til its hot and drop the revs til you get the temperature you want, run the machine at these revs into a 25 ltr drum for one minute and use this ltrs / min to work out your nozzle size or half for two oppos. If I want really hot I preheat the tank a bit

Another way which I was thinking of doing was to make a small trolley with 2 x 20 metre hose reels on and a splitter with none return valve between splitter and hose reels, then you could have one length of hose from your machine to the hose reels on a trolley (this is the hose that will go through your hotbox before the trolley) then you just position the trolley with your to hosereels on near to where your working and just hook up a gun to each one of the hose and feed them off the trolley.
I would say a 21 litre hotbox would be fine as you will get away with 10 lpm for gum removal aslong as it's hot enough.
If that makes sense?

Cheers guys, appreciate all the info..

Im actually looking to mount the boiler on the trailer. Need to measure up how much room is in the front section. Might have to move the machine around a bit. I think originally the trailer had a different machine on it, as it has the little chimney out the top of the cover for the boiler flue. But the zeta is a beast. so if i can get myself a boiler and mount it in at the front next to the machine, ill be a happy boy.

Hi Mat
I use two guns from one burner to remove gum, basically I just put a splitter on last section of hose that runs to two separate lances, the machine with one lance and 07 jets runs at 21 litre a minute at 3000psi, with two lances and 03 nozzles I still get 3000psi but only about 10 litre a minute from each lance, the water gets very hot and moves gum easily

Trevor,

Good to hear first hand that i will be able to get the heat off one boiler. Now all i need to do is get myself a boiler from somewhere, find the room on the trailer and plumb it in. Do you find the heat is pretty constant if your using twin ops for long periods? or does it start to cool down a bit?

Kevin,

I get a lot of chewing gum jobs on tarmac, so most chems for gum removal are a no no as they are solvent based, and will just ruin the tarmac.

the heat is very constant, if one operator puts his lance down for a while then heat has to be turned down or it gets too hot

Kev, here's an email I got last week.

Hi,we are a company based in n.ireland, for the past ten years our company has been working with scientists and queens university to develop an iconic liquid that removes gum instantly.we have now got this unique product ready for the market, basically you just spray it on top of gum and the gum dissolves in seconds,it is bio degradable and requires no tools or machines.this product is totally unique and your company could be the first to have it in the UK,please contact me for further info.
Paul Mcgurk

In which I replied 'Send me a free sample then Paul and I'll give you my opinion on it'

And his response;

Thanks for your quick response,
I am putting together a video and samples, this liquid is bio degradable,uk Goverment approved, and requires no steam or pressure hoses.
We are putting together packs that can be sold to maintenance company, cafe owners, hotels, pubs, school etc..
Imagine now people can send here own staff out to remove gum without needing to use a third company.
There is a bigger machine being launched to tackle car parks, foot paths etc..
One man machine cleaning all that gum using this unique liquid which is patened and approved, this is going to take the gum removal by storm.
