very happy as all effort put into the business with a website and google adwords starting to pay off  .... spend about £8 so far with adwords for last 2 weeks and just got a £240 patio and drive job booked in.

'kinhell pal and there was me on £25 a day the other month for 2 weeks.

The way the keywords bid up with others is ridiculous and it wouldn't surprise me if it's done automatically by Google to keep you paying more.

Paid off for me though, although the battery ran down fast on the iphone and had to keep charging in the van when on jobs.

Never bothered with the "ad" words stuff, just a an SEO contract that works for me.

Roger - How much do you pay for youe seo if you dont mind me asking? I have looked at a few and some seem reasonable but some seem extortionate (£199 + a month). As with everything I always think you get what you pay for but £199 seems a bit much to me. Does it sound expensive to you?

Ian / Lee - Goggle want you to do adwords because thats where they get revenue, thats why they keep changing the search algorithms (panda, penguin, etc), to keep it mixed up so websites go up and down the rankings all the time which forces people to do an adwords campaign to stay at the top.
i have also seen videos on youtube were SEO experts do tests on google analytics where they do exactly the same searches on both google.com and google.co.uk and they both produce different numbers of search figures for one key phrase. I too wouldn't be suprised if google fixed the 'increase bid' figures aswell

Anybody asked the "SEO" people .what exactly they do for there money. I can never get an "exact " breakdown (not an unreasonable request ,i am paying for a service and i want to know what i am getting for my money!).
Supposing you have the ranking you want on google etc  has anybody stopped paying for SEO work to see if the rankings fall or do we just take it for granted that it's there work that is keeping it there?

Thanks for that, so me thinking £199 isn't that much at all. I supose one decent job per month would pay for it though. do you still get many enquries through the winter? (new customers that find your site)?

and i have noticed your well up there in google nationally mate, so it is well worth the money, your phone must be ringing like crazy?

I have just paid for a small link building campaign, area specific, 5 keyphrases, £100, just to test the water, they also guarentee 1st page or your money back, just going to see how it goes.
In any intances it's better spending my money on my website than any other paper ads like yellow pages (thats tiny these day because no one uses it) or the local rag.

A mature, well built website should perform well anyway ...yours to the tune of £120,000 a year. Have you actually asked them what they do? Did your website not rank well before they undertook the monthly "SEO" regime? What improvements have you seen since employing them? Do you pay them on results or just pay a "flat fee" ?
Most businesses get payed on receipt of products,services or results but SEO companies don't seem to offer any of these things!

Don't really know what your problem is, but will answer your questions.
Had a website before the one I have now, ranked fairly low, then tried SEO with the people that designed it for a while still no improvement, so had the sire re-disgned by a new company ratings when up but it could do better so took out SEO with the new company, With the keywords etc that are used I have page 1 for those words, which is what they said they could achieve, we get around 40 new hits a day, on average 20 enquiries a week by phone and endless email enquires, I'm booked up till October 6-7 days week, turn away more work then we can handle, so for me it works. It is a flat monthly fee we pay.
I pass on the work we can't handle to a few local companies and people on here if it is in their area. Speculate to accumulate Chris.

Thank you... all i wanted was the questions answered.
You had a  website ..possibly badly designed that did not rank. You had a new website made properly formatted rankings went up.
Do you think the monthly Seo is necessary ? I get calls from companies all the time offering me monthly SEO deals but they wont guarantee what they do or the results...hence my reason for asking I don,t have a problem.They were reasonable questions.
I do speculate to accumulate but by the same i do not waste my money.Cheap advertising becomes expensive if it does not work! Similarly i don,t mind spending  if somebody can show me results!
Bearing in mind i have around 10 websites on the go ...SEO could get very expensive if i took up every lying telephone sales person that phoned me up on a daily basis let alone the emails from Asia.

Do I think it is necessary ? if it maintains the stream of enquires and bookings we get then yes. I did some research before deciding which company we were going to use for our site etc. And they deliver what they said they would/could do. So it works for us.

Maybe it is just your new website and the way it is put together....not the monthly SEO  package that is generating the leads?
What exactly do they do for there money?
