I got a call today from a lady who wants her sofas/ carpet cleaned. When i asked her how she got my details, she said...oh I got your leaflet last summer It's been 9 months since then and I just wondering what makes people keeping a piece of paper for so long and why wouldn't they get in touch sooner if they originally had an intention to do so.

I've had the opposite , I have been leafleting an estate every 4 weeks for about a year now , I have had a number of jobs on the estate during that time, but my last job there I asked the customer how she found out about my company ( expecting her to say via the leaflet ) and she said " I found you on the internet " I showed her my flyer and she said that she had  never seen it ! I know they have been delivered because I do that estate myself !

My record was 10 years. I know because the leaflet had an offer with an expiry date. Cheeky bugger still asked for the 10% discount.

I had one last year that called me on my parents telephone number that I started with 21 years ago when I moved out the year after I changed number I wanted a new number as to divert to a mobile which I couldn't do with their analogue line.

for the first few years I used to change the colour of the paper I used on leaflets and I was surprised at the amount of people that did actually keep the leaflet and I had jobs of leaflets that people kept foe several years. It just goes to show you that you cannot gauge the success of leaflet dropping over a short period of time.

could not really say at the time I was just using single colour black print and putting loads out. In hindsight I would have been better off investing in full colour and putting less out with a higher response rate. Was playing the numbers game. These days I use full colour on 200 - 250 gsm but are not really putting enough out as have seen such a drop in effectiveness of drops.

Strangest we had was a lady who when we visited to quote had 7 or 8 of our leaflets all pinned together on her notice board.  She'd been meaning to call us each time the leaflet came then left it until after the offer so thought she'd wait for the next leaflet.  We leaflet the area every 12-13 weeks so she had 2 years worth.  It was interesting to see the evolution in leaflet over that period.

what was the most popular colour peter?

When I tested this on a my RISO. ie Same advert, same area, same day, yellow beat pink, which beat white. Costs wise it was worth using colour over white if you can get it cheap enough. You need to do the same thing locally though because it may be different in your area with your flyers. Have I mentioned split testing before?

One of my customers had my original leaflet from 1993. I gave her anew one as I had not got one of the old ones. I have date coded mine for a long time and its surprising how long some people keep them. I wish they all would.
