Some google ad words questions
« on: May 19, 2013, 06:41:41 pm »
Would you put in your keywords window cleaner your town or window cleaner and rely on the radius mileage setting you have put into your ad criteria ? Also have noticed the bid price required to get onto first page seems to increase on a daily basis for some keywords ?

The mileage setting in Adwords, how accurate dyou think that is?

IMO it's nowhere near accurate, therefore is pointless.

If you have a stat code installed on your site and you visit the site then go and have a look at your sites stats. If I do that quite often I'm told I'm a visitor from 50 miles away.

Hi Ian.

I'd put both in your keywords, you can have as many as you like and not be penalised. Make sure the keywords are set to 'exact match' and not 'broad match'. That will save you money. If it is on exact match, it is down to you to get into the mind of what people will type into google. If you do not have as a keyword what they type in, your ad will not show. It takes a bit longer to set up, but will save you money but also increase your ROI dramatically.

I think you may be better paying someone who knows what their doing.
I used Ash White from off here.
Google set mine up first-he reckoned their work was shocking.
Saved me more than his fee in the first month.

Ian is only asking whether to rely on the radius system of Google's. I use The radius linit, but with the town keywords. Don't rely on the radius system alone as it srubbish. I had calls from 50 miles away when I removed for a day the towns I was interested in.

By using the keywords option and radius, you are narrowing it right down. Whilst the radius may not be that accurate, it doesn't matter if your keywords are 'exact match'. If they don't type in 'window cleaner Deeside', if that's one of your keywords Ian, your ad won't show even if they are only 1 mile away. Exact match is the way to go with the vast majority of Adwords campaigns.

You do need both the radius and the town keywords in your keyword list. If you check the keywords that people search for, 99% include a place name. Exact matches can be a bit too restrictive, I prefer to stick with phrase matches as it allows a bit more flexibility for the things people might type in (people type some odd stuff!), but it's also important to have a list of negative keywords to exclude the more generic terms that you're not interested in attracting.
It's also worth baring in mind that even if people don't use a place name, Google will use cookies on their computer to identify which relevant areas (places) they've browsed about previously - as long as you have activated that setting.

The problem is that if you have window cleaning in your phrase, it seems to show your advert just on the cleaning word.. At least that is my experience, is it possible to get an exact match with "window cleaning", then include phrases that include that specific term together with your chosen town? So for example a search of "window cleaning in Hanfsworth Birmingham" (deliberate misspell).
