day rates
« on: May 19, 2013, 12:19:00 am »
noticed on the topic ....    How do the experienced guys deal with this ?

that charged 300 a day for fascias and soffitts etc. im defo undercharding coz often im getting 160 for lion share of a day doing these jobs.

if you had a day rate for wc work im guessing it should be around 160-200

but for fascia/gutter work think the 300 a day is bang on. i had two poles break in the same week, other week, and both prematurely coza of fascia gutter cleaning work (they take more stick )

my questions is who agree 300 day rate roughly for all day fascia conny gutter cleans etc

and around 200 for wc work? i know it depends on what you want to earn etc but im missing a trick by not charging a premium for heavier cleaning tasks compared to wc work.

300 a day isn't a realistic target mate.

Ignore people who say they're regularly getting this.

Yes it is. It doesn't mean you will get it every day but £300 from 9-5ish is very realistic. At least here it is.

Love these day rate topics.
Why would anyone tell anyone what they're earning if there's no benefit to gain?

These posts are pointless. Charge what you think you are worth or what you think you will get away with.

End of story.

Not putting any rates up, but we get far more with easy regular cleaning, banging them out all day than what we could charge as a day rate. People would think we're having a laugh if we tried charging a whole days rate for one job.

Why worry what anybody else claims they earn, they don't pay your mortgage or feed your kids.

Aim towards a target that you know is reachable and be happy with it.

And please delete these silly earnings threads, they benefit nobody!

Day rate topics make me laugh.

People will pick their best day and then say it's now their day rate.
Some even quote a day rate and then you find it's for 2 men.

Find a rate that is sustainable over a long period of time compared to the service you have offered.

See if you get repeat calls at that rate and see whether they recommend you to their friends.
That will give you a good idea.

fair play understand re deleting this -wasnt meant to be a witch hunt for prices.

just that i feel sometimes what i might expect for a day wc compared a day doing harder graft more wear and tear and body and equipment, thought this deserves to be at a premium.

tried deleting this but wont allow me too.
sorry

What you can earn in a day & what someone will pay you for a day rate are two VERY different things.

I was thinking more along the lines of £500 a day. Especially if you'd be keeping me prisoner until 5pm. I can't work for nothing.

i just do an hourly rate per job:) if i have had a fairly poor week with weather i will go in abit cheaper to get the job! if im having a busy week and struggle to fit the job in i price it higher.
I think the most likely conclusion to this is that the people saying their getting £300 a day are probley over pricing the jobs because they probs have a really busy round and dont wanna work weekends for anything less.

I'll be honest on this subject now,

When you're doing domestic you can charge whatever you think you'll get away with,

But on commercial its a totally different ball game, unless you're well in with the client, or can offer a service that nobody else can realistically provide, you need to be charging a realistic price where you can make money and be happy. Charging high and getting the quote accepted is all well and good, but unless you've got it all signed up on a contract then you're going to be a sitting duck waiting for somebody to come and under cut you.

What I'm saying overall, is to provide a fair price, do a decent job and you won't go far wrong. £300 per man day isn't something that is going to realistically happen day in, day out on commercial work. And to be honest I'm glad that it isn't, like I said previously if that was the case I'd just be waiting for the phone call to terminate us as the client had found somebody cheaper. Don't get me wrong, it can be achieved, sometimes even more, but if you're using those type of figures as a pricing structure then you won't be keeping very busy.

Dean.
