Truck Mount
« on: May 18, 2013, 05:58:30 pm »
Looking at buying a Steamway 9100 Truck mount, anyone had an experience with these or know much about them. I've done a bit research but would  good to hear what people think.

I've had one for 8 years now and it's been superb its done just over 2000 hours and still runs great, saying that I've got a spare one with 3600 hours and that runs fine as well.
Things to look for:
The heating is quite complicated, so make sure the actuator rod goes up and down with the thermostat dial.
The ignition switch can burn out, I've been through a couple.
Check the exhaust for leaks as they're flexy pipe they tend to break at the joints.
Other than that its just an engine, blower, cat pump and heat exchanger so just check for leaks, and make sure it runs well.
They're pretty robust, so I'd recommend.
Speak to the guys at Alltec they know them inside out.

I bought a second hand one with 2000 hours and I love it. It's got a water cooled engine so to my mind it's better than the basic B&S aircooled one. Blower is good.
The heat exchanger is different the engine heats a small header tank in the engine, then heats a header tank and then if you don't use the machine it does not dump the water it bypasses the header tank and the excess heat gets diverted out through the exhaust. Thus you only use the water you need for cleaning.

Snags..........
It's a 10 year old machine and sometimes the hoses/couplings need replacing because they leak.
Solenoid replaced on the actuator arm as it was sticking
New exhaust wrap bandage
Had to get a manual from Steamway in USA $25
Belts on blower snapped

But it heats, sucks and cleans really well. And the move up to a truckmount was awesome...it's so quick and leaves the carpets dryer with less passes.

Parts are easy to get but Alltec have it sorted quicker than anyone.

Thanks to both the replies, lots to consider there. The machine is 3600 hours and fully serviced from Altec. It's on our favourite auction site. I'm going to view this week so at least I have a check list.
Tony I will probably give you a call sometime on Tue, thanks.

Hi Neil,

Sorry I sold it before you had a chance to see it.

Speak to Chris at Alltec as he may know people selling them from time to time, plus he's a top guy who knows his stuff.

Cheers Alex

There's gp cleaners in Gloucestershire also try hydramaster and Woodbridge, I've got a lovely machine from Woodbridge for not a great deal of money.
