Have I got it right?
« on: April 23, 2013, 12:50:37 pm »
Asked you for some advice a few days ago about starting up and thanks for the replies.

Now if I'm correct is this everything I would need to start-up wfp (cheaply):

Backpack
Pole and brush head
DI Vessel with resin
RO unit (live in hard water area)
Drums
TDS

From what I've read I would have to ensure the mains water goes through the RO, then through the DI, where it would go into 25ltr drums, which I would then transfer to the back pack, is this correct?

Hi mate,
Basically, yes......
But you will find this method a clat and hard work.......
First question......do you have a van?......probably not by the way you are talking.
I would consider a trolley system....save pouring water from barrel to Backpack. And more reliable.

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply, may give you a call later if short on answers, no I don't have a van, just looking at costs and things at the moment. How much more is a trolley system?

If you .make one yourself, not much more for a trolley.
Trouble is with Backpack they are awkward to use unless you spend more on setting one up.
To make up a trolley would cost around £200, probably less.
I've been WFP for 7 years and always done DIY. I have tried most ways and started with a Backpack.

I dont mean to kick you in the nads but would it not be better to find someone localish to you and offer to help them for a day to see what you can learn, what kit is needed and how to do the job. You may not like it.

Have you done any canvassing yet, how long will it take you to build the client base you need? These are just as relevant as what kit you will need.

I would find time to talk to David as his offer of help is genuine and priceless.
But then you get the cheapest kit and muddle through.

put the backpack on a trolley like this one ws series half way down page http://www.johnhewitt.com/backpacks.htm that should fit in car when folded down.get 20 or 30 metres of pole hose for backpack.

No, I mean a trolley that uses barrels as a tank.
When barrel runs out just change barrel.

Trolley is:

Sack Truck
Pump box
Barrel on sack truck
Pump box hung on sack truck just above barrel.
Inlet pipe into barrel
30mtr hose wrapped around sack truck handles.

4 to 6 barrels in car.
Sack truck and pump box
Poles on roof rack

Sack truck out.
Pump box on.
Barrel on.
Inlet in barrel.
Prime up.
Pole of rack.
Away you go

Tony, I have a lot of experience using wfp, just don't know the technical stuff and the cheapest way of starting up but thanks for the reply.

Seems like everyone else is having a debate haha!

I can see pros and cons in both the backpack and trolley but after doing a bit of research it seems the trolley is more reliable then the backpack and also less strain on your body?

backpack window cleaning warehouse, 18litre, get your tap fittings correct to go onto your hose connection for your pole.     Before you get this get your water setup correct first.     that's where I went wrong.  got all gear before I sorted my water purification correct,  can be a learning curve.   once you can do pure water as and when needed    you are good to go.       if I didn't have my backpack  id have lost lots of days work   with all this wind etc  the past few months.   I would not have been out with ladders too windy.       100% safer.  lots of places to get gear,    but if you get stuck doing your water its a waste.

i have used both...backpack over trolley everytime..weighs less
easier to handle especially when you have jobs with awkward access
through properties etc.generally cheaper to buy
