cooking oil
« on: April 15, 2013, 03:15:10 pm »

I have a custy who owns a pub, i clean the carpets on a regular basis , however whilst cleaning out the fryer he managed to trip with all the waste oil whilst walking throught the lounge to dispose of.

Not seen yet, but quite an amount apparently over an area of approx.  5 sq yds, I have told him i will proberbly have to lift carpet and clean sub floor and backing etc, and if I am honest I am not 100% sure of the best approach to this .

What chem and approach would you suggest ?

Bugger of a job. I would recommend hot Enzall, plenty dwell time.

If its possible I would as it will wick back into the wool otherwise.

I would also pack it with Dry Power or Fiberdri after cleaning as a poultice to pull out any remnants afterwards and ask them to vac it later.

Did this with a hydraulic oil leak from a flight simulator once on a glue down after a previous attempt.

Jamie has it spot on there most likely will be wick back I'd do as John says hot enzall rinse a lot and then apply host or other sponges brush in leave until dry.

Had one like this a child walked around a room with a bottle of cooking oil, i managed to get it out but as i expected it did wick back, it was in the middle of a lounge so difficult to get to the backing, if its soaked through then you will have to get to the backing otherwise it replacing as this customer decided to do.

I would not use an enzyme for oil.
It will be a pain of a job full stop, but if i was doing it ii would prespray with Rubicon, it is made by Evans and eats oil.  ;D

If you're lifting the carpet consider replacing the underlay. Most carpet shops will sell you a little, or let you skip dive for free.

Ok, i done the job,
lifted  and the underlay was soiled with oil , nothing in the sub flooring  , i cleaned the underlay with prochem fibredri,  not brilliant as was expected . I then prespayed carpet back with powerburst , dwell for about 15 mins and extracted , was amazed how much oil was been removed.

Before relaying the carpet i cover the area of underlay with plastic sheet to prevent any thing else been absorbed by the carpet itself, now wether this is detrimental in any way to the carpet or underlay , i do not know !!! but seemed like a solution.

I then pre sprayed carpet after relaying again, power burst , hot  dwelled and extracted  ,again  great result, plenty of drying stokes, blowers on  to dry.  cover the area in fibredri  ,rubbed in with multiwash and left for an hour, vaccumed and hopefuly will have sorted the problem .It did look visably good on leaving , however i have left the custy with fibredri  and suggested  he  cleans the area over the next few days as a precaution.

I hold my breath  !!!!
