To the OP.

Employ the best people you can find regardless of race, colour or creed.

If I must work trad. then I wouldn't employ polish; but then I employ the squeegee and applicator method or just scrim. Polish can smear if not applied very sparingly and buffed off vigorously.

Obviously wfp is best as no polish or soap is involved.

I do use polish on my shoes and my Mrs. will use it on wooden furniture or brass.

It's a game of three halves!

Me too. I have an Uncle Sam.
I have an uncle from Eastern Europe, too. My Uncle Bulgaria is a real grafter.

Just my 2bob on Americans...
I hate the 'do the math' thing too.
I particularly hated the
'Have a nice day' thing.
Stereophonics even wrote a song about it!
This was before I'd been there though. While there a number of people said 'have a nice day' to us. Bus boys, taxi drivers waiters etc.
I am a real skeptic and tend to think the worst of people until proven otherwise but when the yanks (you can say yank-its only racist if you mean offence (my mum says!)) said it-I genuinely believed them. It felt...nice.
Perhaps we don't understand a culture until we are immersed in it...

As I have said before on this forum, The quality of UK applicants tends to be a lot poorer than those from abroad. Most British sent by Job Centres (but NOT all) are only interested in keeping their job seekers allowance. The Poles or other East Europeans over here tend to be the best workers from their own countrys trying to improve their lot. Believe me there are some VERY lazy Poles but by their very nature would not dream of getting of their backsides to look for work in their own country let alone emigrate!
Nowadys I only employ people who are recommended to me or people I know

thats the problem though, i'm sure most yanks are great on their own, but i sometimes feel as if this country IS immersed in their culture especially when people who should know better like middle aged telly presenters go 'i'm loving it '  >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(    i know kids adopt other slang & copy stuff but honestly.

MAYBE its not americans i dont like, maybe its just english who copy americans hmmmm

Go there. Try living in their world for a week or 2 (not Disneyland!), ill bet you feel differently when you come home.
Know what you mean though-imitation is annoying.
