hoselock reel + hose

does anyone use one of these hozelock hose reels to use to fill there buffer tank / water butt to feed pressure washer. I don't think I can be bothered with just the hose loose, too messy trying to collect up when finished. on these long hoses 20 / 30 metre hose reels you don't have to reel all the hose out, so can you still get the same pressure through the hose to fill your water butt up regardless of how much you reel out. they are probably tidier and easier to use. would you recommend them.

I've got a few of them and they are what they are really. Main benefit is keeping the hose neat when in the van. Get a couple of different tap fittings, there are two main types/diameters.

I have a hozelock reel with 50m of hose for filling my tank. its bolted up on a shelf in my van and connected to my tank. i pull up to a job, pull the end of the hose to the tap and turn the tap on. simples. you dont need to unroll all of it. just what you need then when your done just roll it in. Need to be carefull though to drain all the water out otherwise the fittings and hose freezes and you cant fill your tank.

The cheap hose reels kink the hose at the axle and you loose flow - the better ones have a swan neck from the spindle and don't suffers this.

I have one from City irrigation.
11/4 inch hose @ 100 metres. Expensive - I needed the reel next day and that was an additional £30.00.
£320.00 inclusive for a great bit of kit. They go straight onto a hydrant riser, I have made a reducer Hozelock connection to go on 15mm
Going to buy another next week!!!

Sorry Matt
Now I think about it it's a 22mm one, definitely legal as it has been hired from Thames Water for a 2 month spell.

Matt depending on the water board you can get a 50mm riser outlet but the actual riser pipe will be smaller.

Lee
Spending a lot of time down here at the moment, Streatham, Croydon, just been over to Kingston to look at some work and I believe we have some more work down here next week so having the risers is becoming the norm.
Thames offer the bigger riser but I really like the set up of the 22mm reel so don't ever go for that option.
The other night we found a hydrant just short of 100 metres away from where the van was parked, popped some barriers round it and it kept up with the machine all night.
