Who's a tight git!
« on: March 20, 2013, 02:55:57 pm »
I'm a bit embarrassed to bring this post up really but here goes,
Yes I'm fairly new at the job only a couple of months into it now
have not done many cleans and like a lot of you struggling to get any business.
I do seem to be throwing away a fair bit of prespray after every job.
Ok ok, but add it up at the end of a year and you busy guys are costing yourselves.
So, cold unused spray. could we mix it with something, can we use it again added to
fresh pre spray .
I thought about using it added to the clean water to enhance the clean, I only put
acid rinse in my my tank normally, up to now using solutions products,
Anyway am I missing a trick!! or as above, caring for the environment and the worlds resources
or just a Tight Git!

Keeping costs down is the name of the game ;D I use Mircro splitters and Chemspecs DFC range and have had no problems using the following day if I have any left over but I don't mix with fresh, I use left overs first. Consider even when mixing chems 'hot' by the time you pre-spray it's cooled considerably and on large jobs it's getting cold anyway. One trick is whilst you're learning to judge how much you will need is knock a litre off what you think you may need so you are not mixing up too much. I have not had much experience with MPower and with SPM containing an oxidiser that may also effect how it keeps, check with Solutions I'm sure Nick will give sound advice. Enzall cold can make a great spotter!

M power doesn't keep very well at all... After a day it starts to "clean" the water, and hence reduces the effectiveness... After a few days it is no good for cleaning, but will help the tomatoes to grow  ;D ;D

It costs pennies per job, I don't give a second thought - always mix new the next day.

The more jobs you do, the more you will gauge how much to mix up on each one, but seriously the cost is so small it's of no consequence.

I'm of the same opinion. Pennies lost, but if a per spray is sub par the next day it may yield a poorer result or take longer. These things are more likely to affect your bottom line in the long run.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Why would you throw it away?  what makes you think it is no good the next day.
Do you only make your spotters on a daily basis or do you throwthem out every day too.

I always just add to mine the next day and it works fine.

I use a m/s  ( triphosphate) which is the base chem of spm for my customers as a spotter. I have been to a customer 18 months later that has still half a bottle left and still works fine  ;)

SPM (or equivalent ) has something else in it too though Paul.    ;)

Yep it has an oxi booster, its this that will be spent. It will still work though, but as you say not as strong.

There are other things that you can do to boost your prespray and spotters and also make them lat longer, but thats a secret  ;D

Yes Paul... although these days I pretty much get the quantity spot on..

I have 250 ml plastic bottles with lines painted round measuring the quantity of chemical per 1 litre, so I can make up in 1 litre increments if I like.

An extension to this same thread
The product that's left if made from Powder ie SPM, I found on more than one occasion
the wand on the sprayer blocks up "aarrrhh" and after clearing blocks up again
at least with the left overs its usually free off bits/lumps and works just fine result!!
On a serious note even when I put powder to water a liter at a time before gently
pouring into sprayer and collecting those bits at the bottom before they go in
I still get the bloody spray wand blocked what do you do to stop it.
without resorting to liquid solutions
