Prototype extreme brush
« on: March 18, 2013, 05:30:27 pm »
ive been using the dual trim extreme brush since the start of this year & i really like it,
 but,
i find that the finer/shorter central bristles get all matted together

so thought i would try an old estandard extreme and make my own dual trin version to see if this would perform any better

anyone else tried this, if so how did you get on with it ???
i'll let you know how i get on with it.

Been doing it for yonks Steve. What I do is cut all the bristles down & have the inner two rows "just" shorter than the outer rows. This makes a very subtle dual trim & one amazing brush!!! More accurate, faster, better scrubbing power & the bristles last much longer than standard length!

If you have a dual trim to begin with (Xtreme that is) then trim the outer two rows so that they are just longer than the inner two- you'll never look back. I'm still using the same brush I've used every day for 10 months!! It's ready for changing about now though. ;)

I've often wondered what a brush made the other way round would be like - short stiff bristles and long soft outer.

Yes mate, i do.
But tbh its only been lukewarm water, i think its because the inner bristles are finer.???

The inner bristles are much finer/softer so as you say they will be affected by heat/abrasion more than the stiffer outer bristles.

The second brush that you have shown is a much stronger bristle and is probably much better suited to a warm/hot water system than the medium mixed brush.

Its a shame that the finer bristles tend to curl up Alex as i like the feel of the brush, feels like a flocked brush.
I'll have to see how my chopped version performs ??

Take your time & make a good job ;) I use a piece of very thin ply-wood to slide between the rows of bristles. I then use a brand new scraper to cut against this, working my way along an inch or so at a time. ;)

I can't use normal length bristles anymore, it just feels like a floppy mop on the end!

I found a piece of metal 30mm high and about 100mm long, slid it between the rows and used a pair of scissors to trim the bristles back.
I think i might trim the outer bristles down a tad aswell like has been suggested

I don`t hve that problem with hot water as I put my brushes in slightly hotter than my pole water but not boiling at the end of each day just hanging in until cool and the next day the are all strait again.

Hope this works- the brush isn't the medium mixed but you get the idea. ;)

The black one is cut down & shown next to a standard one.

Winpro, do you still use the black brush, or have you moved over to the medium mixed and trimmed that down. How well does the black scrub?

Once the black brush is trimmed down it scrubs very well, un-trimmed I can't use it. I currently use a medium mixed with the outer (white) rows cut down. I got it to try but almost immediately cut it down & it has lasted 10 months of daily abuse!! I have found that all my Xtreme brushes last much longer with shorter bristles- they tend not to curl when cut down or get caught in gaps & pulled out either! ;)
