hi all
i have an escort van and i seem to spill a lot of water on the deck of it,it seems to be running out all the seams on the under side  so my Q is this
what do you lot protect the base of your vans with to stop this prob..... i.e pond liners  or some sort of paint ??  thanks stu

I did mine myself with protectakote.
I was wondering how you go about giving it another coat on top, sometime.
Mine is fine at the moment, after 4 months, but I certainly don't treat it with any respect.  Things get thrown in, dragged across it etc.  So is there an easy way to give it a touch up if need be?
Back to your question Stu, it is a quick, economical and very effective way to waterproof the floor of your van.  About £70 a tin and you need to do 2 coats, but will only take you half a day to do an escort.

For about £100 you can also use a fibreglass kit.

I have used this on my own van, it is incredibly hardwearing, very, very tough.
A lot tougher than Protectakote, that isn't to knock protectakote by the way.
But it is a cheaper option than speedliner and a more expensive option than Protectakote.

It is messy to do but it is also something that you can DIY.

Speedliner for instance is really something that needs to be done professionally.

On the Russian principle on their space programme (NASA spent weeks making a pen that would write in all temperatures and at any angle - the Russians used a pencil........)

Drill 10mm holes at all the "low points" (four should do it - so that what ever angle the van is at then the water will run towards one of them.) - use a good primer to waterproof the rough edges of said holes.

Then the water runs out and doesn't slosh about!

Protectakote.

Spend a bit extra and get it done by a company who specialise in it.

Well worth the money.

It will stink the van out for a few weeks but it works.

Or you can do it yourself. £80 odd for 5 lts and you have to wire brush every where it will be applied.

We paid £140 for a company to do it. It meant the vehicle was off the road for a day though.

Be very carefull about ventilation if you fibreglass your van out.

I had a guy pop round about 6 this evening who we are installing a van mounted system for later this week.

He looked really rather ill and told me that he did the fibreglassing yesterday. He had to be taken to hospital because of the effects of fumes and told me he was seeing 3 of everything!!!
