I just say 'hello, would you be interested in having a window cleaner'.
If they are great, give them a price and make arrangments.
If they're not, say 'ok, thanks anyway' and get moving to the next house.
Canvassing is a numbers game so keep it simple and you will get to knock on a lot more houses an hour and get a better result.
After all, probably 95% or more will say no thanks so don't waste your time with a long sales pitch.

Just knock on the doors with dirty frames, no point wasting your time knocking spotless houses as chances are they are more than happy with there current arrangements.
Keep it simple, tell them you clean many in there street and area and am building up your round, when you give them you price eg £10 always say its only £10 a month and for that we do all your glass, frames and doors. New Customers love it.
see canvassing as a challange and always have a target set to hit. An extra £1000 a month is only 100 £10 average customers. Aim for 10 customers a week for 10 weeks and there's your extra grand a month. For newbies Do that 3 more times and your on an easy grand a week all from simple canvassing finding the work yourself.
It realy is that simple, you will get what you put in. Just stay focused...

Eye of the tiger.

I always knock the door and say
Hi, sorry to bother you but just enquiring to see if you have a window cleaner?
They say either, yes, no or how much, if they say say no I ask if they are interested or somwetimes they have said yes and I then reply no worries, and thanks for your time and walk off, but sometimes before I get to the bottom of the garden they are asking how much do I charge then you can go into what your company offers and how regular the service will be.

I do have good success with canvassing as people say they dont like going out getting it but once you get that first" YES" then all the "no thanks" you just forget about

Never done it but I'd hazard a guess that opening with 'sorry' is probably not the best technique.

Never done it so just my opinion.
