wasted my time
« on: March 09, 2013, 10:49:04 am »
i had booked in a new customer to clean their windows at 8.30am on thursday, i turned up on time to find no one in and gate locked so i couldn't clean the backs, i decided not to bother cleaning the fronts. i put a note through the door letting them know that i had called as agreed and was charging them the full amount for the clean, for wasting my time, not really expecting anything.

on thursday evening the customer rang very apologetic and paid me online.

has anyone else done this.

I think you were lucky with that one most custys would have told you
to get lost, especially when you didnt clean the front.
Cant understand why cleaners who dont want to get over locked gates take
on jobs from custys who lock their gates.
It was a nightmare when first starting with custys forgetting to unlock their gates.
But decided that it was work I didnt want to lose so found a safe way to get over
the gates.
Dont forget that a custy can start locking their gate at anytime.

I would of used my 8ft single pointer or split my ladders to get over the gate to clean backs if it wasnt too awkward.

if i couldnt get over i would of cleaned the fronts and charged her full price seen as though it was booked in.
price higher/work harder!

it was the first time  clean, the gate was to awkward to get over, i would normally split my ladder, they had agreed to leave gate open and money out, i left them a bill on the off chance as i intended to dump them.

If it had been me I would have done them all anyway, or at the very least the fronts, if I weren't able to get round the back, and left a note.

I wouldn't see it as wasting my time. I think about the customer's delight at coming home to gleaming windows and having found a window cleaner who turns up as agreed and does his job conscienciously and without complaint.

If it were me I wouldn't of cleaned the house if the gate were locked.
Some people are funny about jumping their gate and I don't like doing it anyway.
I would of been fed up but would just of left a note for them to arrange a return visit with me.
If following that it happened on a regular occasion that they left the gate locked I would probably dump them.
Considering they did pay you I believe it probably was a genuine case that they forgot you were coming.

I personally would not want to leave my gate unlocked in day when out anyway. You held down to a day then even if you text the night before then get up next day something happens spare of the moment and you don't turn up.. it looks like you've let the customer down and they left there gate unlocked for nowt.

Seeing that they have now paid you I assume you are going to re-arrange and actually clean the windows as you originally agreed?

Personally I wouldn't recommend jumping gates unless you have asked the customer if it's ok, i've had a few phone me and ask 'why have we been billed for the front and back even though the gate was locked so how could you possibly have done the back ones?'
I even lost a customer recently that didn't beleive I had done the backs at all and said they would pay for fronts and then no longer require my service.
I would either just do the front or I'd rearrange it for another day and make sure they no i'm coming.
If they repeatedly don't leave the gate unlocked even when you text them the night before, just ammend your book and have them down as a front only if it's worth your while, otherwise get rid of them.

Nothing to do with not believing you, its not hard to check if backs were
done or not.
Just messers looking for a way not to pay you the full price.
As with all jobs, gates are no problem when you have the right tools.
Theres no reason for anyone to jump gates.
