And away it goes! £4 a house by  7 an hour = £28 over 7 hours = £196 per day.!!!

Who works like that? That's 51,480 a year!! That's nearly 2.1million in a 40 year working life!!!  ;D

I work on very compact work at "not bad" prices IMO. If I get a row of 13 to 15 quid houses, I can sometimes get through 4 or 5 an hour. If I had the attitude of "4 quid at 6 or 7 a pop" is good money, then I could drop my prices and think I was doing quite well. At the end of the working day, I'd know the custies were willing to pay 13 to 15 quid, and I'd done them for less, I'd fell sick!!! What happens later if 2 or 3 move away, or get another WC? Do I then put the price up??

Funny prices are for those that think low of their work and of their own worth. I have no sympathy for those mongs in Skegness with clip art pics and no business sense. If times are hard and they think that's all they can get, then see if they're still around in a month or two.

I used to think like they did when I first started, then I changed my thinking after about 2 or 3 days of doing this work!! How do you think a new guy at those prices can earn enough to feed himself, let alone a family?

Ah well, it's not my neck............. ;)

No still don't understand, I must be thick

I think that's the point, the guy is obviously new and doesn't realise how hard he'll have to work to make work pay at those rates. I think most windys didn't charge enough when they started.
Give it a month he'll have a full list of those customers who will go to the cheapest bloke regardless of quality, then either he put his prices up or think "this is too much like hard work" and do something else.

Annoying for a short while if he's in your area, but not for long.
A manager is generally someone who has been promoted to the position by someone else who didn't see them as a threat.
Hence all people are promoted to the level of their incompetence

Customer here in West Yorks gave me a leaflet says "You've got competition - they've been all around the area".
2-3-4 Bedrooms £4.50 - £5.50 - £6.50
Bungalows and flats
£3.50 - £4.50
Not as bad as Skegness but not great either is it?
Also offering 15% discount imagine working out and counting shrapnel for 15% of £4.50 = 67.5 p!!!

Chris your missing the point,
Im giving you an example of a guy who charges them prices and
has been working for years.
He charges £4 but does £4 worth of work and thats what his custys want.
My custys want better quality and are willing to pay more.
Yes he could take more time and do a better job and charge a lot more for it, but
at the end of the day he would be no richer.
Your only a muppet if you charge £4 and do £20 worth of work.
And £200 a day is very good money for the area he works in.

the truth is there is no way he would clean 7 houses an hour EVERY HOUR in 7 hours continous work even if he had a massive compact run so the figure of £196 will be a lot lower and he will be knackered at the pace he will have to go to clean 7 an hour every hour!

at the end of the day just let these guys get on with it and concentrate on your own business.there are guys charging similar prices near where i work!

i have NEVER lost a customer to these guys to my knowledge even though im twice or even 3 or 4 times more expensive than they are!! ;D ;D ;D

best wishes

Yes you can do 7 an hour. I have runs where can do 15 houses from 1 spot taking just over an hour to do of small terraced houses, half are just fronts but still by planning your day first can get 3 or 4 hours in doing 6+ an hour. With 340 haz you must have runs where you can hit that many an hour??.

Yes Mick, they're crazy, but it's all over the place. Some people think that this malarky is all about price, and you know yourself, when we're newbies, we all seem to think that way.

As for compact work, and lower prices, as I've already said, who prices work to fit the compactness of work?? I  can work fast, same as any old sweat in this game, but I've found that being seen to rush and dash about gives watching custies the impression that it's a slap dash job and you could charge less. They start thinking "How much does he earn an hour" etc, and they start getting the feeling that you're some kind of rip off merchant.

Daz you're my hero!! I've got posters of you on my wall at home!!!  ;D ;D ;D
