industrial cladding cleaning
« on: March 03, 2013, 05:43:17 am »
hi, we have been asked to clean algae, black marks off a 40,000 square foot factory unit, we have done test patches with a wfp system (hot) and cleans up ok, on the front of the building there seems up top blackish rust marks where the fabrication joins together which has dripped down the front of the building, these are proving slightly more difficult to remove, would g101 be any good on this..? one operative applying a mixture with a brush., another operative following on with hot wfp, on the roof there are around 80 skylights that have gone dark brown in colour, they want these cleaned and tell me they are some kind of fibre glass construction, any help or guidance must appreciated as well as any hints on pricing this correctly, thanks in advance

Graham

We would use booms or lifts (prefered if there is space), G101 probably will work with adequate dwell time, we use a different chem which is far safer, but sorry we wont share this info. If using lift several operators can brush apply followed via 'pressure washer' rinse hot or cold.
As for skylights does the building have roof anchors ? Or boom depends on outreach - you can use various chems, results can be ltd, add a disclaimer as some of these can be rather soft depends on units age - It might be possible to clarify this with an internal check on lights ?
Please dont take this the wrong way, we would be happy to provide you with a quotation with a finders fee  ;), website shows some of our work plus facebook.

Are you having a laugh, read my other posts I certainly help / offer advice when I can. Not that it has anything to do with you but we currently pass on leads to another forum member for carpets, upholstery etc on a commision basis, benefits both parties!

Why dont you show your contact details as oposed to hiding, so that I can speak with you direct as you obviously have a problem with me.

The reason I did not help you, is that you cover the same area as myself, you also used someone elses email to contact me, if your real name is Tony Edwards!

thanks great outdoors but wouldn't mind a bash at this as need the experience, have a 2nd visit arranged next week so that I can survey the roof, will be asking them to install a man safe or lanyard points if none in place, the facilities manager has asked me to pole it to keep the cost down and it does scrub up except for these black weep marks down the front of the building, I realise I am not as experienced as some on here but any tips on pricing it will be greatly appreciated, my thoughts are 2 men in 2 vans 4 days with the skylights and internal window cleans

No prob  ;) Sure G101 will work maybe give it a little dwell time / scrub.... is it possible to reach using telescopic lance on hot  ? As this may help... Save boom cost. Prices maybe someone will send you a private msg, not sure if anyone will be prepared to show prices for this sort of work on an open forum.

Tony if thats what your name is you are obviously  . If someone chooses you over us then good luck to you, I wont be losing any sleep about it. What I said to you goes to anyone, if you refer us we will pay you a commision, why you think this is stupid I really don't understand.
Not sure why you responded to this post as you obviously cant help, not surprised as I do remember seeing one of your first posts.... something like 'if I pressure wash a roof does the pressure washer need to be on the roof '  - sums it up really   ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.
If you have a problem with me have the balls to call me, otherwise stick to your own posts.

Do we know what has caused the "blackish" marks.
Do you have any pictures (without giving away the location).
I have seen rust marks appear down joints. This was down to the cladding sheets being cut or drilled  and the bare metal not being resealed..bad workman ship really on behalf of the people who constructed it.
Some times gently rubbing with a cutting compound will remove the staining...but this is trial and error.
In the past i have used Jiff bathroom cleaner , "T" cut ,cutting compound "MILD" abrasives
As for pricing would it be possible to do a couple of sq metres "trial patch".
It would install customer confidence (depending on the results!!). It would also give you an insight into the time it would take , materials used and results that could be expected.
No body has of yet wrote a do's and don't manual for this type of cleaning. There are  so many variables that you pretty much have to make it up as you go along.  :)

I've just visited detailing world and I'm converted - 40,000 ft factory would be easy with a bosch aquatec and snowfoam  ;)

I think all the products used are available from "bettakleeneze" or reputable dealers on this forum

thanks guys, gonna go down mid week and do a few more test patches, time the clean, verify safety points on roof and grab some photos,  jobs a cert if I price right as the facilities manager is a good friend of mine, obviously when you step upto something bigger than you have done before you dont want to make mistakes, thanks to everyone who has replied, I'm sure it will be a positive learning curve.
