"dirty rain"
« on: February 16, 2006, 08:15:20 pm »
I cleaned my customers windows on tuesday wfp upstairs and trad downstairs with pure water...in between we have had quite a few heavy showers and its been windy so i go back to collect the money tonite(two days later) and the upstairs looked dirty spotty and i thought...here we go....but the downstairs which had been cleaned trad was exactly the same too ::)and this was the pattern for the houses in that culdesac i had cleaned on tuesday. They were clean when i left them..i hate it when this happens as you feel guilty collecting the money. Anyone else had this problem?

The windows would have been twice as dirty had they not been cleaned.

Today was commercial work and during the morning we do the windows of a cafe and then do a pile more jobs and on on way back we stop for breakfast in the cafe.

It didn't look like the windows had been done because of a large cloud burst and the wind blowing sand and chalk from the nearby sea cliffs.

Fortunately, all around that area they are used to it but it's a bit off putting when you've done a house/shop one day and the next they've got frosted glass again.

Cheers

The weather obviously come from above but that above place can be a few thousand feet or thirty. Sometimes there can be just one or two different air flows and sometimes several all at different heights.

Those air currents can carry sand from the Sahara, dust and dirt from Russia or general pollution from Europe and sometimes muck from the USA.

Sometimes you can get a downpour that dumps stuff from elsewhere but not often.

If you've just done the windows and then a bit of the Sahara falls out the sky in the rain? I suppose it's the luck of the draw really.

Lately though, around here, whether wfp or trad, often the glass is again dirty within a short period so it's not just you and not just wfp. Although I have found the time the glass takes to dry in cold weather doesn't help things.

We done one place the other morning and when we drove past during the afternoon the window were still wet.

Cheers

Hi Tomo,

I'm always a bit leary of rain and very windy weather :-\

The wind will carry particles of muck carried into the air from vehicles, blown off roofs  and whipped into the air from trees and so on.

Heavy rain + heavy wind = spotty windows (Trad or WFP)

And it will happen time and again too.

Now and again we get the dirty rain, fortunately that doesn't happen very often (not inland at least)
And just heavy rain is rarely a problem, neither is windy weather on a dry and bright day.
Dust may get blown around, it may settle on the glass and in droplets of water if you are a WFP'er, but often it will dry out fine.
The dust particle remains a dust particle (but not always :-\)

All we can do is go out there and do our job...and be prepared to call back and rectify when you know damn well that you are working in conditions when the windows are going to be dirty again almost as soon as you have finished :'(

Run a bit of clean white cloth or tissue over the windows and see what colour the dirt is.
If its beige its wind bourne sand from North Africa and the like. That is very unlikeky this time of year but it can be a big problem in the summer.
More likely its jet black in which case its carbon from air pollution thats been brought down with the recent rain.

Not much you can do about it but if you explain it to the customers like you know what you are talking about at least it gives you some crediblity. After all, if they didn't get dirty we wouldn't get paid to clean them.

I've come across this before it has been either sand in the rain as previously mentioned.

Had simillar problem with windows covered in sand/dust, but customer in an area near to quarry - wind in 'wrong direction'.

My view has allways been customers cannot expect you to allways clean the windows on nice days. If you tried to do that, you would find  that you would not be able to survive as a s/employed w/c.

You w/c to make a living and customers have to except unless you live in Calaforina there are going to be times when the windows will get dirty pretty darn quick.
This is a typical winter week.
Its going to rain Tuesday, best not work today.

Its going to be below freezing on wedensday best stay at home dont want to slip or fall.

Storm Force winds on Thursday, Best stay at home I dont want to fall off my ladders.

Blustery Showers forcast for Friday, I dont think my customers will be to pleased if I clean them in the rain even if its not raining so I best stay at home.

Saturday my Gas bill drops through my letter box. S*D it, How much. I cant afford that. Lets look at the weather Forcast for next week. THE WEATHER FOR THIS WEEK WILL BE AN EXACT REPEAT OF LAST WEEKS WEATHER.

Welcome to the Wonderfull world of W/Cleaning.

Nel. ps I think I will join Texas Girl.
