I would like to ask the forum administrators what measures are in place to ensure members of this forum are bonafide. The reason i ask is that one of the aspects of  cleanitup that make it as popular as it is, may also place it's members and their business's at risk.

We are all aware that discussions can sometimes become heated and confrontational, i would like to believe that we are all adults and take it for what it is, banter.
The majority of users of this forum show their identities in a clear and transparent way with email addresses, website links and telephone numbers , some others do not.

I am not suggesting that these forum users do so for any nefarious reason, but it does leave the rest of us in a possibly vulnerable position, should someone in a position of anonymity  take offence by another's comments.

I would like to know what checks if any are carried out to ensure all members are bonafide, if the answer is none then i think all genuine members have cause to be concerned.

You raise a very good point. I co own the Truckmounters forum and no one can join without providing the full names, company name, website, email address and a passport style photo, in other words we don't tolerate pseudonyms because we believe that if you're a professional person and have something valid to say you would have sufficient respect for the people you're  saying it to, to do so in your own name and not hide behind the cloak of anonymity.
This forum is more about numbers and I think you'll find that these incidents, while undesirable, are tolerated because they create traffic and traffic provides exposure for the advertisers that provide the revenue to make it a viable business for the owners.
It would be good however if the mods stepped in every now and again

I go on Truckmounters most days, and I use my plain name on here. I think this forum would be far better if the rules were the same as truckmounters - a passport photo as the only acceptable avatar, and plain, real, names only. Hiding behind a pseudonym makes it too easy or tempting to get arsy.

It's a fine line deciding just what is too far, it does get heated but no worse than the banter you get between mates in a pub, if i called you some of the things i have called my mates the forum admin would step in. it's when you are conversing with people you cant see and don't know  because they hide their identities that problems could arise. we could get someone who is completely deranged  join this forum. who may make it his life's work to mess you about and hassle you.

I agree what has been said by the previous posters. It would also be a good thing when posting out advice to know who that advice is being  given to. If the forum admin does not wish to make it's members transparet to each other it might be a better idea for those of us that are transparent, to create annonamous accounts as well.  That way we will all be on the same playing field, which would make for a pretty stupid situation.

This topic has been done to death. It wont happen because this itty bitty carpet section of a cleaning forum is dominated by non carpet cleaning members, thousands of them, many with aliases and in fact the majority dont even post, they lurk. But when you are in the business of making money through banner and email advertising someones name is less important than how many subscribers you have.

i've always agreed that CIU need better vetting of new members, the reason given for it not being more thorough was the amount of people who join on a daily basis it would need a lot of hours to do sufficient checks.

I would guess this topic has been prompted by Andrew laurry(sp) who has been posting, but has he been so bad? his post have been a bit repetitive  but  has he said anything that could be construed as vindictive or harmful?

dawg gave the best advice if you don't like a poster or his comments then don't engage with him, some people thrive on stirring trouble but if it wasn't for other members constantly biting the topic would within a day drop off the page into obscurity

as for the mods 'stepping in' we do all the time but its not alsways apparent, for instance I deleted 2 offensive post yesturday which becuase I deleted them you were not aware they even existed

Mike it may have prompted me to raise this question, Andrew's posts although irritating were nothing more than that.

I probably made it  more personal myself, and that's the point, although i meant nothing more than poking fun which is harmless, i was asking a hypothetical question.
If Andrew or anyone else who's identity was unclear decides to takes offence then that could result in problems for any of us, especially if we are clearly identified.

Andrew has clearly found me to be as irritating as i found him, but we are grown ups, well almost. it does raise a valid point that sooner or later some troll is going to appear and all hell will break loose.

I think we should agree to disagree James and be done with it. There are always going to be issues with so many opinion's attached to it. I've given my thoughts on TACCA and I hope it's highlighted some deficiencies that could or needs to be addressed before it progresses further.

Better inside the tent p...ing out than outside pi..ing in.  I just hope that we are never faced with a serious problem because some of incidents of trolls that have been reported in the press over the past few years have resulted in suicides. and bereaved families being subjected to awful abuse, i just want to highlight that the anonymity that the forum allows could provide the perfect environment for something similar. for example i have a picture of my son on my avatar and considering this topic i wondered whether that was wise.
