Building an ETM which waste tank?
« on: February 20, 2013, 12:24:03 pm »
Hi I've been looking on  truck mount forums in the USA. And I noticed this guy qwikdry has started building his own ETM and to be honest for how much it's cost him so far it looks pretty neat for something he has put together in his garage. My only problem with it is I don't think that the steel drum he is using will last that long but maybe I'm wrong i don't thing it will be able to take the pressure and I reckon it's bound to implode sometime.  ??? I know that its never going to be anywhere near as powerful as a truck mount but for the cost i think it could be a nice little project to get into. By trade I'm a joiner so building the frame work and lining with some metal sheeting isn't going to be to much hassle. i
I've changed vac motors on my ninja and backup grace machine before which is pretty easy. However I've got to say I'm crap with electrics to be honest so my biggest problem would be wiring it all up without setting myself on fire.  :-\
Any ideas guys as what to use as a waste tank so that it wont implode with all the vacs on?

take a look at qwikdrys original post. http://www.truckmountforums.com/threads/my-etm-vacuum-setup-pictures-of-it-built-from-scratch.38312/

Thank you

Gary

There might be different grades of metal barrel out there but i just cant see a round metal barrel imploding from four vac motors .

From whats already out there if you came across an old bane tank that would be a convenient starting point as well as providing a heated water source , but only the smaller of the bane tanks , using the huge one would give you a horrible delayed vac build up .

Also the cross american plastic external tanks  , people don't seem to use them anymore so they would save you the hassle of fitting hose and waste connectors to a barrel or whatever .

Or just get one metal  fabricated  , as small as you think you can work with and with a large removable lid for easy cleaning .

Heres another inspiring home build ...  this guy is only 17 !

Thats a pretty neat machine that lads made especially for someone just 17. To be honest i thought myself that a good grade steel drum would be fine. But a few on TMF think otherwise might be worth a shot  ;) cheers John.

Could you use a blower on 1 electricity lead and would it have more vacuum than 4 vacs

I think it could make a very nice reliable machine , but i still don't know if it will turn a blower fast enough .
you would probably need about 5hp and a slow-start module of some sort .
Bane has a 5hp blower unit on its site , pretty expensive though .

This is a quote from Mytee's  John LaBarbera from a similar discussion

A 1 1/2 hp motor is totally inadequate to run a 3.3 blower. It is not fast enough or powerful enougn to get the performance that you would want. (little CFM and HG) They are also expensive and the weight of blower and motor combo only would be close to 150 lbs. Those type of machines had very limited success and that is why most discontinued making and selling them. If you go to the Roots/Dresser web-site and look at the power requirement/ performance chart you will be able to see that for yourself.

Mytee built an ETM with a 3.3 blower and a 5 hp electric motor, dual cord machine. Even though it performed well, it had lack luster performance compared to the Mytee Escape ETM the we recently introduced. With certain very efficient electric blower motors available today the water lift and cfm action is hard to beat and an underpowered PD blower cannot begin to compare.

I'd say you'd be looking at 1000+ for a 33  , not sure though

I think i would probably use vac motors instead to keep the costs down.
