Hi, I'm a bit of a disaster area, so would Appreciate some advice. Apart from a basic service and spending silly amounts of money Is there any other way to take care of a petrol Pressure washer Honda GX 390 with an interpump? I've already blown up one GX 390 and don't really want to do the same again, Any advice would be appreciated especially regarding the pump. Are there any really obvious don'ts, When it comes to pressure washing.

And I promise not to be insulted by obvious comments, I've only just figured out why I shouldn't eat yellow snow

My last Honda blew up and I still to this day don't know what went wrong. It only had 100 hours use from new and oil was always checked.

Which bit blew up, pump or engine?.

Aren't you meant to change the oils after 5 hours use when you first get a new machine, seem to remember something like that with our new machine?

take it to get looked at, they may point out what you did wrong.  google pressure washer repairs in your area

Change the oil ,air filter ,pull start string regular. Dont run the pump without water or too long if it don't dump to a tank. If you blew up a new Honda engine i doubt very much it was your fault .

chris    they say prime the pump before starting,     am i right in thinking before you start your pressure washer    pull  the lance trigger in , keeping it in when starting,  to take pressure off pump,       about a month to go b4 i order or buy one from secondhand source.

Hi buddy, I think you posted on my last thread when My Honda blew. I spent 400 quid having the engine rebuilt First time was 200 quid The Rocker plates had come loose And the engine wouldn't fire up, Picked it up ran it for half an hour the same thing happened again and then the 2 rods Where the rocker plates sit were all Bent and twisted. It was a big pressure washing Outfit that fixed it for me, The second time it happened they offered to swap it for a little 6HP Honda. As I have a job that needed doing I just let them have it And took the small Honda.

And your comment really makes sense as it had literally only done a few hours work although being over a year old. I have one job to do every month but it takes around eight hours, Oil was always checked but never changed, You might have cracked the case.

To start my pressure washer first... my tank is gravity fed...it takes water from the bottom of the tank through a bulkhead fitting.I connect my feed pipe to this and let water run through it.This purges the line of air.I then connect to the washer.Then comes the hp pipe with no gun attached. I drop this into the reservoir and start up leaving it a) to purge the system of air b) warm the engine before i load it. Then connect the lance and run.
I believe pumps have a shorter lifespan when they have to "suck" water up and over the top of the tank. Hence the feed from the bottom.
