A very good response James. The stupid thing about the situation is that we actually miss out on opportunities to clean carpets, mainly because that's all we do!.
A friend of mine started a carpet cleaning business back in 2000. He struggled for the next 5 years to get work and make a living. He decided to moth ball his carpet cleaning equipment and venture into contact and general cleaning. Since doing this he is now constantly bombarded with requests to clean carpets. He now has 3 people full time cleaning carpets and this is despite not promoting it.
The contract cleaning firm that doesn't want carpet cleaning work will get many more requests for this service than the specialist carpet cleaner actively seeking out work.
An example would be,,, if you wanted your car cleaned would you have the valeter clean the whole lot or would you source out another contractor with specialist equipment to clean the interior. The chances are you would let the valeter do the whole car. Cleaning is no different, people want one person they can trust to do every cleaning part of the spectrum. This would result in the valeter doing much more interior work than the specialist interior cleaner with specialist equipment.
