Russ
You seemed to have gone through quite a lot of machines in quite a short space of time!
I have a couple of Scorpions! the newest was buit to order last September, I had the Jag for about eight months and loved the power it had, but after eight number two motors blowing on me, I'd had enough
I used to run three ninjas and two of them had piggy back motors, and although they had  three motors in series and seem to have a lot of suction i found the Scorpion left the carpets cleaner and drier set up in the paralelle
Saying that the Scorpion/Jag must be of the worst build quality on this Planet! Sorry Edd but thats my oppinion! All the other machines ive had in my twenty two years of being a carpet cleaner have the basic requirements! ie efective vacume shut offs, The Scorpion and jag dosent it has a huge gap in between the two tanks so when you are filling it up its quite easy to spill fluid down it and onto the electrics
Its also a pig to work on and as other folk have already stated very dated 80s body, the good points has to be the weight! it is quite light for its size and if you are working by yourself and have to take it up a staircase it isn't hard As ive already said my latest Scorpion was new last Septemmber but was a replacement for the Jag, If i were in the market for a new porty today i think i would go for the Storm! its well put together, Exellent build quality, Very easy to work on and i would go for the Magna heater as well

Are The %.7 motors diffrent to what ashbys have been using for years . Is the pump diffrent.
Got an email talking about using underpwered machine yesterday from Ashbys encouraging switch to enforcer  but I cannot see where extra power is

Everyone is different and Paul has a good point, some machines may not be as suitable as others but then its how they are treated and cared for which will determine how long they last and how reliable they are.
In my opinion as a former Jag owner i have never had any problems with my machine so i cant complain.

Ian, as far as i know they are using the Electo 5.7 motors which i believe to have a performance increase compared to the Lamb motors (John will confirm im sure) they are fitted with air seals which add better protection against moisture. My advice would be to test the machine out with 100' of 2" hose to the wand and see what you think...

Ease of maintenance because I live on the Isle of Wight and the cost to get to the mainland! Wednesday I sent my Ninja 400 by currier to Ashby's, but it never arrived, machine have got lost in a traffic accident I am been told and the only compensation I will get is £ 84.50, that is what they are saying! The blinking machichine cost me £ 4500.00 for 2 years ago! I don't knw if this is correct bjut the currier have told me I am only insured for £ 1.50 per kilo!!!! Thanks for the replyes!!! Got a bit of a bad head!!

The courier may be correct. When ever I've sent items for repair I always insure it for it's replacement value, you're right to feel let down as they should of asked the value and recommended you insure it.

Me ?   Regrettably i wouldn't make it this year , but is sounds a fantastic event .   :)

Ian , vacuum wise , as far as i know Ashbys are using some vacs from these guys ...

http://www.electromtr.com/about.htm

Electro have several different models (all 5.7 ) so i couldn't say for sure which are in the Enforcer ...
But electro would have two  basic types  ....   the tapered fan motors ( like a 6.6 inside )   and the lower powered flat fan motors ( like the usual lamb motor )
But they have a few of each type with varying power ratings .

Its likely at least one of the Enforcers motors is likely to be the 230v version of this ...

http://www2.cobbcarpet.com/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=4762

A high airwatt motor as you can see ...

The tapered fan motors have a slightly rounded bottom and need a thicker gasket to sit on than the flat motors  ...

With regard to the reliability or should i say the unreliability of the Jaguar! I know there are people on Cleantalk that have tried to slate me with regards to no me not looking after my equipment! but ive had my original Scorpion for six years now and have used it for many thousands of hours without any motors failing! If i diddnt look after my equipment the same thing would of happened with my Scorpion but hasn't so it can only be a manifactures problem,as i recall Joe hatton who was virtually part time had gone through three number two vacume motors as well as severall other folk, are all these people abusing there equipment as well? no i think not, no The Jaguar was just a badly designed machine and that was why they had to make changes to it as they were replacing motors on a monumental scale

Stuart, i think Joe was just a general cleaner that did a few carpets along the way.

You can get a duff machine like you can get a duff car. You may have just had a bad machine.

It would be very interesting if there was a test on motors themselves to work out the best vacuum configuration for carpet cleaning then the best way to set them.

I'm not sure that suppliers play ball as they have to be unique as well as believing in 'their' product every machine has an Achilles heal.

There is nothing wrong with the motors, but it was the motors that were getting the blame at the time! The main problem i see in the Jaguar is that there isn't enough airflow around the motors and all that heat is trapped in, I spoke to somone in the states whom had similar problems with his machine, he took out the silencer and solved the problem, the other machines with two 6.6 motors have ventilation motors in the body

The Safeclean franchise had the choice between the Scorpion and the Airflex Turbo - they went with the Turbo

A couple of years later they had the choice between the Jaguar and the Airflex Storm - they went with the Storm.

That Altec looks like a good machine, well built. I'm not arsed what it looks like as long as it does the job right, I don't think we are going to win or lose any customers because our machines isn't as good looking as the competitors.

Does anyone own one of them machines? Would be interested in having a look.

I think it was very bad never even offer me insurance, and they still have no idea where the accident happened or what is happened to the remains, I got a bad feeling that they are not telling me the tru!

I got my eyes on the Airflex Storm, so now it could be a question of how quick they can deliver! The only question I got, is because I am used to the auto chemical feed on my ninja and the Storm hasn't got that choice as far as I can see, what are you lads doing?

Auto chemical feed on a portable?? i cant see the point myself... if your pre spray and agitation stage has been correctly carried out then the only thing you may need to add straight to the tank would be an acidic  product.

Speaking to a few of the lads on here I get the impression not many people are, and they're in fact fed up with those 4 letter's being mentioned!

The other thing they get pi%%ed off about is aparant 'know it alls' leaving general unhelpful belittling sarcastic comment's to their questions.
