Powder Coated Frames/ `Spotting``Smearing
« on: February 15, 2013, 12:17:56 pm »
Just wondered if anyone else has or does have the same problem
As myself with powder coated aluminium window frames where
`spotting`and smearing sometimes can be horrendous ?
I never get it on upvc frames it`s always the powder coated aluminium
Ones.
They are on all my commercial accounts which I`m 95 per cent commercial
Anyway.
It was gone into a awhile ago now on the forums.
The member who explained the `whys and wherefores` I can`t bring to mind.
This past week has been the worst yet.
Extra rinsing if anything makes it worse. :'( :-[ :o :o :o :o

Comments and advice appreciated.

Extra rinsing a couple of inches below the frame works for me.

You can rinse till the cows come home and never win.  What you are experiencing the coating powering off.i would rinse the frames then wipe off with a cloth and put some wd 40 on a cloth and wipe the frames to coat the coating and then blade the glass.I do this on a flat I do with old aluminum coated white frames. This I do every time I clean them. The frames worn out.

Hi lewis, i have some houses with these frames ,what i do is brush the tops with your brush turned off, but damp, then just wet the glass.

if you have openers, clean all top ones , then come back to first one and wipe the bottom of the opener, then clean window underneath,

sometimes i even have to do this on pvc frames because i get drip spotting  >:(   pain in the a..ss, hope this helps   john.

Hey Lewis.
Powder coated frames are a real pain.....
I usually get round it by VERY carefully keeping the brush on the glass never touch the frames. My brush enables the water to be directed on the glass only. If there is a middle bar that the water runs down scrub this several times and then move on to the glass under the bar and rinse really well. Works on mine ok. Cheers

It`s mainly 3 or 4 inches in from the seals down the window sides.
From what I recall it`s some kind of capillary magnetic action or
Something from the aluminium that `draws`from the frames.Just
Can`t bring to mind any more.Like Jeff Brimble says`” Some glass
Just won`t have WFP”.
Glass these days is phobic anyways.

I do a post office, every couple of weeks,it has ali frames, and is a right pita. Cleaned for a couple of years wfp,and the damn frames still run. Could spend all day rinsing, still the same result.
Now just go to a few mm below the top of  the glass,so it misses the top frames, dont usually get probs that way!

It is the powder coating. Wet it then run your finger over it you will see the white coating has turned your water 'milky'
