The reason it leaks is the same that all straight Hozelock types leak after a while - the male part revolves inside the female causing wear on the rubber seal.  (Never mind the inevitable comments ::)roll)  The elbow connector from Gardiners has the connection on the non-revolving part so doesn't wear.

Nice one Posh.

What about the female part that I will need to connect into this elbow? Or will any one do?

this u need http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/Quick-Release-Shut-Off-Coupling-with-12-Hose-Barb-QRM_SO_COUPLING_12.html
Bit pricey though  :-\
james if your reel is van mounted I would suggest trying just a cheap hoselock connector with the swivel first ( as has been explained before the reason for the leak was the connection spinning unlike that with a swivel ) I just use an own brand blue B&Q one and I have had no problems with it leaking or coming off.
regards
Simon

Are you referring to the 'elbow' piece that connects to the side of the reel?

Also, what have you replaced it with?
