Anyone willing to show me the Ropes??
« on: February 15, 2006, 11:22:59 am »
Hello to you all,

Having just left the Army, i'm after a job. I've been cleaning windows for friends and family for a few years now wislt i have been on leave. I really enjoy window cleaning and would like to do it full time. I was wondering if anyone in the midlands area would be willing to give me a couple of days trainning. I have already put out some flyers and i'm picking up a few houses, but would like to know more before i go for any big jobs. I live in Lincoln area but i'm willing to travel.

The help and advice i've found on this webpage has been a great help, you window cleaners are a good bunch :)

Just stick to picking up houses for now, that way you will learn your techneque and become quicker, the bigger jobs can be very demoralising if you are still learning - i speak from experience.

Mick,

Go through your Local Pages and phone some window cleaners up.

Tell them you'll be 'their bitch (site spell checking amendment here; female dog)' for a couple of days in return for some training.

It's how I started.

Good luck.

PS.

Which Corps/Regt were you in?

Yes, there's quite a few of us here.

I also spent 3 years with 32 Royal Engineer Regiment in Hohne (Begen Belsen).  I left there about four years ago and hold the RE in high esteem.

I was an AGC(SPS) 'pay wallah', but really enjoyed my time there.

Even if I was threatened on a regular basis!

Hi mickwc

Especially me.  ;D

Seriously though, it sounds like you are doing the right thing anyway.

I think what marc said is very true - don't worry about bigger jobs for a while. To start with all we did was houses and bit by bit we got more work just by putting leaflets through the door of houses in the same street where we had a job. I think we often spent more time leafleting than window cleaning.

If you can find someone to go with for a few days, well and good, but the speed,  experience and technique seems to come with just doing the job.

Personaly, I think if you're prepared to go out everday even if it's only to leaflet a few streets then you can't go wrong. In the end you'll end up with full books.

Cheers
