Its got a switch wired into the tank for that.

think it may be a pressure switch for when you let go of the trigger and the engine revs drop, saving fuel and wear on the engine, then wehen you press the trigger it revs back up?

Nah mate, its a pressure switch for the boiler. turns the boiler on and off with the flow. Apparently.
