Good morning all
Just a quick question for those who have undertaken council or public contracts in the past. I am in the process of tendering for a contract and working out the price etc. A few years ago we rented a building from a guy who tenders for bus services to the council and he told me that he used to ask for the current pricing from the existing bus company as it was classed as being in the public domain. Is this true or did he just have a good relationship with the council??

It is true. But the council here have a cleaning budget that they don't break down into window cleaning. It was a 7 figure price but the contract for windows was won at £19k over 2 years here.
Not sure of its the same across the country though

Ring them up, ask to be put on the list when the tender come up.
They will need 4 prices. But probably have 4 already. You need to stand out more than one of the 4 for them to pick you to tender over the existing provider.
Ask for the weighting. It won't all be about price.

I have a friend who is in procurement for a council and he says price is very high on their agenda for appointing a contractor during the tendering process if not the first thing they take into account.
