Fitting recoil spring on washer

other day the starter cord snapped and when i removed the recoil i noticed the spring had also twisted slightly. New spring arriving and hoping to get it back on  ok. machine is Loncin 13hp basically copy of gx 390.

Wear gloves ! Flame seal the cord so it goes through the hole nicely and tension it with the cord - there is a slot in the reel for this (if its like a Honda)

On my honda genny I couldnt get the recoil spring off. I had to thread the new cord through and tie off.

trying to figure out how this fits in and in the right direction for when i start machine. dont wanna have it other way then pull the cord and ruin it lol.

It should only spin one way mate. Check which way the old one spins.

got new spring fitted. my machine is a copy of gx 390 honda seemingly. loncin washer i have. I watched a vid on youtube and guy is winding the spring up pulling in cord. I tried this but if you do this when ye let go the cord  goes to bits. i assume ye wind up up spring then undo one revolution attach cord and let go slowly thus pulling cord  in?
