TRANSIT CONNECT LWB 230 VAN
« on: February 01, 2013, 08:49:11 pm »
this is the next van im thinking of getting.

steel bulkhead and a 500L TANK with cage.

im i right in thinking the payload of this van is 900kg?

not sure about the tank size to be honest.i might put a 400L in and carry a few barrels to take me up to 450L.

ANY OF YOU GUYS GOT ONE OF THESE?what tank size?and can you fit your poles in with a steel bulkhead or did you have to cut a hole in the top of it?

many thanks

Cut two/tree round holes in the bulkhead and insert 2/3  mini gutter down pipes And fasten to the overhead strut to carry your poles as even the low roof has a lot of headroom .I am over 6 foot and 17 stone and still plenty of head room.i have the holes in the middle of the cab roof and can still carry a passenger easy.Your t230 mostly have the higher roof, I avoided the t230 as taking the ladders of this model is a bit of a problem with roof bars with out scratching the paintwork.I also found the t230sold for much more than the other models, but they do have 6inches more length in the back.
I do like a my  the fitted bulkhead as it does offer a measure of security and some protection  if I did have to slam on brakes as nothing will come flying past me. I used the in floor securing loops and have found them to be strong. The second day I had the van someone dove in front of me from a side street and the tank did not move.
The connect is a very good van. Spruce told me they and over engineered for a van.I find a plus factor as th

I've got one Daz, I find it ideal for solo operative. 900kg is the payload yeah. Also, I got the 500ltr tank upright fitted with tank brace running across the bulkhead. Easy fit. As for poles, I've got CLX18,SLX25 & 35. They all fit in without cutting into the bulkhead (just). I've put some angle iron on the sides inside the van and put 1'' thick wooden planks across (one towards the back and one nearer toward the doors, these take the weight of a set of aluminium ladders, cut-down, and my poles, when I've done a job they just slide into the van across the top of the two planks. This has been upgraded recently by two drainpipes which stops the pole hose hanging down all over the place.   ;D

It might be worth looking at the grippa tank, they come to you to fit it. Saying that, they might not do a 500L tank  ???

i will look at the grippa tank when i get the funds together but ive got a feeling that itll be expensive!!

im sure i seen that their 400L tank with frame(fitted)is around £1300.

it just too much money to spend i think when i could probably get a 500L tank and cage fitted for about £500-£600.

When I bought the van, it already had the bulkhead fitted. As for the tank, I bought it from Toucan Supplies, but I don't know if he's still going. You could Google it  ;D. Generally though, I think if you bought a tank from any of the wfp suppliers there wouldn't be much disparity in price.

cheers guys.

yep thanks window washers.just looked at the grippatanks website.they look the business.i reckon a 400L upright with frame would be great.this then allows room for my other stuff, pumpbox and maybe a few barrels to take me up to 450L.

I wont be getting the tank and van yet but its good to plan ahead and have some goals.

best wishes to you all

Daz, i've got the SWB version with a 350 tank in and I love the van. Very reliable.

its not always about going for the cheapest mate, its what the long term cost is.

I am looking to get another van on the road very soon, so weighing up new against old

If thats Toucan environmental just outside Bristol, Alex is still going strong.
