You don't need an Ipaf to hire and use booms and scissor lifts.I would thoroughly recommend getting your Ipaf however, if you've never worked with these machines before, they can be quite daunting. The course teaches you about the safety aspect if the machines and you have a practical test so you can gain confidence using them.Lots of different machines out there, I normally go to the yard and have a play before it gets on site.

You don't NEED the IPAF to hire. But plant that basket through the M.D's office window and you will be in a heap of trouble for using equipment without training.

That's right, show him your ipaf when you're smashed through his window, disturbing his "meeting" with the secretary, and updating his Facebook status, and he will be fine with it. :The ipaf does not make you a safe and responsible operator, just like a driving license doesn't make you a driver.
