I've been asked by one of our Customers to quote for a Shot-Blasting job but this is something that we don't do.

In that case has anyone tried using a pressure washer kit: -

If so how was it and what are the limitations. Were there problems such as access, noise, mess etc.?

I use a wet blast but there is a knack as you need to drop the gun when you trigger off or the water runs down the lance and wets the sand. It will clean a strip about 50mm wide but this depends on your m/c and the nozzle fitted. Don't buy a cheap one - I've got the big stainless one fron Dual pumps

 we have used these occasionally both with sand and soda results are ok but it doesnt half make a mess to be cleaned up afterwards espeacially with sand

Are they suitable for inside work and is the mess as bad as I imagine?

If I do go down this path it will be the Dual Pumps one that I get.

I would be using with a couple of machines, both have 15lpm at 200 Bar. I'd assumed these would cope, although I notice the Dual Pumps head is OK upto 450 bar which makes me wonder slightly.

Hi Trevor, this is my worry.

Have you used any other methods of blasting? For us it would need to be a mobile unit.

no these are all we have tried and to be honest dont like doing them so in future i would sub out , i once so a demo of ice blasting this was much cleaner.

I wouldn't do it with 15LPM - you could well be there forever

 i cant remember it was a few years ago and like you say the cost of equipment and granules put me off

Proper soda blasting is good as the soda that is left is soluable with a little citric acid but I'd dread doing any of this work inside. I use my wet blast with 21 ltrs/min but you need the right nozzle to suit your machine, the better dual pumps sand probe is adjustable so you can also regulate the sand flow.

Try speaking to jaime fairchild  at [urlhttp://www.restorativetechniques.co.uk[/url] .He has a blast system for use inside. I used it to clean all the angels and gargoles at Manooth cathedral in Ireland . Very impressive with very little mess. Depending on the grit etc you can take the print off newspaper without damaging the paper itself!!!
