two pumps suplying the boiler inlet
« on: January 26, 2013, 10:18:10 pm »
I have a 70 psi pump suplying the boiler then split of to Two reals could do with a bit more flow so was thinking I could t my other 70 psi pump into the inlet so will have the extra go then I can regulate them both down a little if its to much. I'm running maplin dial controlers so no problem with calibration etc.

What is the flow rate of each pump. The 70 psi is a little low for a water boiler it needs pressure to open the valve to engage the gas flame.70 Psi + 70psi = 70 psi not 140 psi.Two pumps will increase water flow not the pressure.

I'm surprised at the number of people who don't understand the difference between pressure and flow.

If the original poster has a small trolley pump that delivers a low liter per minute flow, then the probabilty is that this is the problem and nothing to do with pressure.

I expect if he connected his heater's water's inlet to the mains, the problem would be solved.

So will this help with my flow problem running the two pumps ? I'm no expert but surely two pups pumping into the inlet will make more pressure?

to be fair the L5 only need a minimum of 20psi, i got a pressure gauge on min and mine runs at 35-40psi

They are 70 psi pro pumps of eBay. Just out of interest why wouldn't you have two into one? Cheers

Even if you put a thousand pumps on there they wouldn't increase your water pressure.

If you put your pumps in parallel then they would increase your flow but 70 psi would be you maximum pressure just as Smithie says. If you put them in series you wouldn't increase flow or pressure.

Propump make a variety of pump sizes with differing flow rates from 2.6 lpm to 5.5 lpm.

Have you coupled your heater into the mains and tried it?

could do more damage to the pumps, if one has a lower output than the other for some reason, the stronger pump would try to push against the weaker flow etc might cause more problems than sort out.
