More rugged alternative to Rectus 21
« on: January 22, 2013, 05:34:59 pm »
My lads are a cack-handed lot!  Their Rectus (EZ-snap) type 21 hose couplings only seem to last a month or so and they're complaining it's expensive to keep replacing them.

I've tried researching on t'internet but can't seem to find any viable alternatives (6mm microbore to 6mm pole hose)

Anyone used different types they could recommend?  Preferably able to withstand being stomped on by numpties in size eleventeen hob-nails ;D

Thanks,

Ian

I all so had the same problem with 21

I posted about it on here and got told to use 26

Miles better had mine over 6 months and no probs

Rectus 26 sometimes known as series or pro 26

Teach them to be more careful. Spray with wd40 each day and have a rubber ball on the hose end.
Mine last 6 moths at least.

The pro 26 from Gardiners are far superior.

Rectus 26 are a bit chunky though, if you can keep the 21s off the ground as much as possible (big protecta ball on both pole hose and microbore) it helps a lot. Change both male and female at the same time. The first to go will be the little rubber O ring in the connector, and the connector will jam open. But yea, they aren't that great even then, they do go eventually.  :-\

I keep a can of WD40 in the back of my van; handy; and before we start work I give each female coupling a squirt; not so the oil goes in the inside of the female coupling; just around it.  I make sure I shake off the excess so it doesn't land on the hose.

It really does prolong the life of the couplings.

take it out there wages! lol

They're self-employed so they have to buy their own.  That's why they're complaining ;D

I use Retus 19 brass fitting not made for water, but I have had them all 7 a total 3.5 years and never replaced any.Retus 21 is crap and a money maker for the supplies.I do not use protector ball just drag in the ground and if they stick use a little w40 and revolve the  outer casing. Not many know about Rectus 19 as the window cleaning guys don`t push them.

i use the rectus 21 connectors as well and find them ok.they usually last 4 or 5 months before needing replacing.when they jam i also get the WD40 out and they are fine for a couple of months then.

im always dragging them across the ground!they get a fair bit of abuse!

i buy them from gardiners

Rectus 19 or rectus 26 - they're chunkier, but last MUCH longer.

I have rectus 19 fittings,.. I've not changed one since I fitted them 3 years ago.

I have the round black disc at the end of the hose, and always pick it up taking it back to the van before reeling in, and so far seems to be lasting ok.

Hi Ian,

Have you tried a google search for "More rugged alternative to Rectus 21"? :)

We also do Rectus 26 connections.  They are much more rugged, but quite a bit heavier.

Where do we get rectus 19 from then?

We had some, but there wasn't much demand, the Rectus 26 were preferred, so we didn't re-stock.

If enough want them, we can look at getting them in again, let me know on an email how many you'd want and barb sizes (6 or/and 8mm).
