If you put a hose on the outlet of the tank with a on/off valve should be pretty quick, can't think of any other ways

Use a 12volt submersible pump dropped into your tank  :)

With the 12v submersible, I plumbed and wired mine in so it was in the tank all the time, with a switch to turn on and off. This stops the faffing about dropping it in the tank each time and remembering to put the lid back on the tank.

i plumed this pump in my tank about 2 years ago.   http://www.amazon.co.uk/Voltage-Submersible-Transfer-Pump-TP94/dp/B000ROB684/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1358625826&sr=8-20

bit expensive, you can get cheaper ones
, http://www.gardinerpolesystems.co.uk/acatalog/12-volt-rule-submersible-bilge-pump-60-lpm.html

if you dont want to plumb in, then just drop in tank .     jp

Hi kybl, heres pics,

that hose you see next to lid is the pump hose.

veiwed from top,  drill hole big enough for pump hose and wires to pass through, sit pump nearly on bottom so does not suck up grit, although thi pump has filter on bottom, then with this epoxy glue fill the top and seal it.      ,http://www.amazon.co.uk/EPOXY-ADHESIVE-GLASS-LEATHER-PLASTIC/dp/B003BPX9EK/ref=sr_1_12?s=diy&ie=UTF8&qid=1358681131&sr=1-12

because the pump is pumping out 16 odd litres a min,it will cause a vacum efect, so you will need to put a hose in lid or somewhere so that air can get in, if you look in first pick mine is on lid,  you can just loosen lid while pump is filling, but i sometimes i forgot then water would bubble up .

lastly fit an on/off switch from B/Q  , put it somewhere it cant be knocked like it did with me once while driving and water pumping everywhere ::)  >:(

this ishow ive done it, and not had any prob for 2 years
hope this has helped    .j. p   ;)

thats great thanks, i see you have a pump & controller st up as well so i take it you have a hose reel would it not be easier to be able to disconnect that somehow & fill the backpack then you'd only have i lot of pumps, hoses etc

KYBL IT WOULD TAKE FOREVER TO FILL A BARRELL WITH NORMAL PUMP MATE.
WE CLEAN BY FAITH, NOT BY SIGHT WITH WATER FED POLE WHEN WORKING AT HEIGHT.

Filling a backpack directly from pump & controller would take too long.I use a 3/4" tap from the outlet with 19mm hose and it fills quite quick.
Anyone who uses a submersible pump how long does it take to fill a 25l barrell? It takes me 45 seconds with a tap from the outlet, but would consider getting a submersible pump if it was a lot quicker.

i use 1 of these   http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Metal-tank-tap-kit-valve-1-for-water-400-500-650L-tank-/390293339386?pt=UK_HomeGarden_CLV_Cleaning_CA&hash=item5adf4bbcfa,  not sure how long backpack takes to fill but its a lot longer than any 45 secs & thats only 18 ltr if i could do it that quick i wouldn't need a pump.   what am i doing wrong then ???

Not sure what fittings you would need, but basically you are trying to get 3/4" fittings so you can use bigger id hose.At the moment you are using a hoselock style fitting onto a 15mm tap,so your hose id will be too small for a fast flow.
