Help needed....
« on: January 05, 2013, 09:42:13 pm »
After just having a play on a website build thread by forum admin im a little confused , i have started the basics and then looked to find myself .......with no joy !!!

Now im not thick , but on the other hand im no PC whizzkid by far , i understand that there is the need for SEO  , google ranks , visitors , but my understanding fails that in the case that i am given my own web address down to the last dot  , i cant find it on the web , why is this ......

I used the simple sites stuff that is now on page 2 or 3 as we speak , please put me out of the habit of wasting time on this stuff !

All i can do is tell you to follow admins link and then click on the examples page of simple site ?

Hope one of you can help as its doin me ed in >:( >:( >:(

website is....panesandframes.simplesite.com

All help would be great , Rich

Hmmm not sure, but if i type your address in it come up with your page, and like you say a google search returns nothing  ???

Well done though on it being a Googlewhack though  ;D

http://www.panesandframes.simplesite.com/
1 result (0.38 seconds)

The 1 result only relates to an add rather than your site ???

Could it be that Google hasnt placed it yet? Doesnt a Google bot have to get the web info or something????
Oooooo that is shiny!!

No disrespect but using a second level domain name is about 10 years out of date at least use your own domain name man it's costs about £7

i think what ian is saying   is having your own domain name *****.co.uk  or .com  is better than going through someone elses domain as  some of these free sites do

his website address is not his it is .simplesite.com

I watched way over 10 years thousands if people lose there site to free net name.
Having your own site www.yourcompay.co.uk is far better. why would you advertise someone else like this.

IMO get your own domain name www.whatever.co.uk

Panesandframes.simplesitw.com is a second level domain )(you don't own it )

I have been hosting people's sites for years I stopped recommending sites like this over 10 years ago as I got burnt myself with the demise of free net name

Then last year the Microsoft free sites every had got lost and had to pay for a new site ( i said that would happen yet only a few listened)

If your goi g to go online do it properly £99 get you a name and page

Others here have explained well enough about second level domains, but aside from that even if you had your own .co.uk  address you'd still need the site to be up and running for a bit for google to be able to actually find it. I'm guessing that if you've just made that one your on about it is still a bit premature to expect to be able to find it.

MrWickes , they did offer me the domain, £1 to buy but then £9 a month thereafter , along with £69 per year hosting , this still only had basic SEO .

All i want is a point of contact for my custies besides a phone , not really on the lookout for new custom , i have enough for now , im not greedy and do not wish to employ again as it turned my life to poo last time , the free site to an extent has appealed to me for that reason only .

What do you think is best for me ?

Yeah i just found it. Did you just do a google sites or did you do the whole GBBO thing and get a domain name ? Either way once you have a site to be able to find it on google you gotta do a bit of leg work and get the name around. Freeindex, Yell.com etc.... The guys above will tell you more about search engine optimisation than me. But it does involve a bit of work.
