@ Bobplum, you're right. I was prepared to pay the £20 but when I went to pay it said it was free.
Perhaps they only want people who would be prepared to pay rather than a load of people getting it just cause its free?
I don't know. I didn't pay though.

did you have to fill in forms at the bank/solicitor for identification reasons

The £20 comes off your transaction charges.

Nope, did it all online.
Took 15 minutes.
Then I had to pay them £1 to 'verify my account'. Got refunded 3 days later.
Got the email today to say my card reader had been shipped.

would you sell your software ?

This is something I have briefly discussed with the guy who designed it, I would not be comfortable selling it without his OK and I would not be confident in selling it without his support. It is certainly a possibility.

I will be meeting with him in the coming weeks to discuss tweaks / improvements to the software, I will speak to him about it then.

excellent could you please let me know when you have ?

I looked into getting the free izettle deal, but my biggest problem with the izettle and all the other mobile phone card readers was that the customers is essentially putting there details into your mobile phone.

Now, if some builder came round to my place, did some work and then asked me to input details into his mobile phone while my card was sticking out of it, i know what id say to him..

Just my thoughts..

I believe that companies like izettle will bring out new card readers, and some companies already have them coming out, whereby you attach them to your phone, and they have a small keypad on the actual reader device, so that the customer can input details on the reader keypad, not your phone keypad. Which in my view is a lot better, as all the companies say that the reader stores the details for as long as it needs to process the payment, then all details are wiped daily. No more putting pin numbers etc into someones phone.

Firstly - we shouldn't be compared to builders, in the main we are continuing to provide a regular, trusted service by usually the same person.

Izettle do not require PIN numbers, customers only confirm the amount and sign the screen to auth (non visa).

The receipt that you can send to payees has a link to izettle website where they can read up on the encryption security features if they really want to.

The account history within the izettle app only stores the last four digits of the payees card.

Not sure which handheld they are offering or if insurance included but the trans charge is too much. Shop around and hardball, I was offered 1.2% credit or debit and I think 2% for cardholder not present credit or debit. (Merchant bank was Elavon)

I can't remember which company offered but ill try and find the paperwork.

Payatrader
Have you looked at the Payatrader service and the new Chip & Pin Machine? Quite a few forum members use the service.

With the core service (no physical terminal) there are no monthly fees, no minimum usage charges or minimum term contract.  It's a simple Pay As You Go service - which means you PAY NOTHING if you don't process a payment.

You can take payments online, by telephone using a virtual terminal, mobile, email and via a 24/7 payments line.

If you wish to add a terminal you can do so for £3.00 +VAT per week.

All the transactions go into one single online account - very easy to use.

Rates from 2.3% - all published on the payatrader.com - so very transparent

There is a one-off joining fee of £74 using the discount code CLEANITUP

iZettle

Payatrader introduced the new pocket Chip & Pin machine (PayMate) because we believe customers are happier paying using a device that they are familiar with. As you say, many are nervous about entering card details into a traders mobile phone or attachment.

Also, with iZettle you cannot take Visa payments the same way as MasterCard.

For Visa, a link has to be sent to the customers mobile phone making the transaction a bit more complex.

Hope this helps! Happy to answer any questions.
Linda

O the customers phone to authorise. Most debit cards are visa.

I guess it depends what you are comparing it with :) The core Payatrader service has no monthly fees whatsoever. It's only the addition of the terminal that introduces a monthly charge. What I didn't mention in the earlier post is you can also buy the terminal outright for £199 +VAT with a £1.50 weekly charge for SIM data.

The terminal is a mobile terminal with a roaming SIM and SMS receipting; typically, these terminals are more expensive than static desktop machines and devices that need to pair with a bluetooth phone. The upside is the simplicity of processing the transaction, the security, and the from a customer perspective the familiarity of chip&pin.

One other thing to consider is you get a full multichannel service, enabling you to take payments: online at your website, by telephone using a virtual terminal, mobile, email and via the 24/7 payments line. This means you have lots of options depending on how your customers prefer to pay.

Finally, there are no merchant account fees to pay and no requirement to complete PCI compliance paperwork - that's down to us!

Hope this helps
Linda

Bobplum - that's the trouble it does start to add up which is the reason I decided not to go for it. Izettle, although not perfect, the reader is free and a you
Pay is 2.75% per transaction. NO extra costs. Don't even have to insure the reader either (or put it on your home insurance like other handhelds) if it breaks or you lose it, get another.

Hi Bob,
Can do :)

The core Payatrader proposition is a "Pay As You Go" card processing service. There are no monthly fees, no minimum usage charges and no minimum term contract. This means if you don't take a payment there's nothing to pay. Also, with Payatrader, you do not need to open a separate merchant account - which saves you more money and makes the set-up quicker, normally within a day or so.

When you do take a payment you pay a small commission between 2.3% and 2.9% on Mastercard and Visa. The rate you pay is based on your weekly card turnover & the solution automatically gives you the best rate based on this. The rates are banded and are shown on our website at payatrader.com.

There are 5 ways to take a payment - online at your website (or customers can pay at our website), over the telephone using a virtual terminal, by mobile phone via payatrader.mobi and by calling our 24/7 payments line.

Settlement is weekly direct into your nominated bank account.

This is the core service that normally costs £99 to set up an account (one off fee) but which is discounted for forum members by £25 using code CLEANITUP.

The new Chip & Pin terminal is entirely optional.

So as you can see you can set up for £74 and have 5 channels available to you within a day - with no recurring fees whatsoever!

Here is a video link that helps explain it: http://player.vimeo.com/video/53943793

The way you join is online at our website www.payatrader.com

Regards
Linda

I have been looking at this one, as recently i have had quite a few customers ask me if i take card, and instead, have had to take a cheque.

www.worldpayzinc.com

2.75% on transactions, which is a bit pricey, but there is no contract, the card reader is pretty cheaps, and its easy to set up, can have it paid into your bank account and send receipts via email etc..
