What is the plant rule? I thought if it was towing for profit then it was a tacho. i understand what we use could be classified as plant but its still being towed for profit.

Overloaded is right you cannot exceed the limit. If your towing and your gross is over 3.5 tonne then you need a tacho BUT there are a few exceptions.

As an ex HGV driver, I would say try to stay away from the Tacho route if you can, as even if you are not pulling a trailer and the Tacho is fitted, by law you should be recording all journeys so you get into the driving/working hours per week/fortnight which for most will mess-up how you are working.
