Why dont you just fit an outside plug?

Pump box, whats that all about. A box where your battery and pump go no doubt? But why? Have I missed something?

You caught up in the sense that you worked out what it is. If you don't have a drive they do look as though they make life a bit simpler. Also, if you ever use your van for other purposes (camping in my case) it is more convenient to remove than components screwed to the van. If you ever need to rent a van they would be very useful to be transferred quickly. There are many advantages for some people. Advantages that outweigh the higher price for some.
