it seems it's different all over the country .  in some places windies price more than that and some places windies price less ... finding what the rest are charging in your area would be a good start . but to me a pound a window seemed about right

£1 a window was being quoted 7 years ago when I started!

Think about how much other things have gone up in 7 years!

Work on the basis that if you get about half of the quotes you give then the price is about right. If you get all of them put your price up.

I see the logic of your statement, but I get pretty much all of my quotes and my pricing is good. It could be that 50% turn you down because they don't like your accent/dress/skin colour/tattoos etc.

you could have quoted £1 for the whole house and i bet that would have been too expensive

sounds like a nightmare customer from the get go ( IMO )

If you get pretty much all of your quotes then there is room for higher prices.

I'm not sure where your comment about my accent/dress/skin colour/tattoos comes in, it seems a bit much to say to someone who is only endeavouring to help.

It wasn't personal. I was just making the point that the 50% rule is dubious. I have no idea what you are like. Perhaps I should have said "one's" accent etc.

The other thing is that I see no point in deliberately losing 50% of my sales prospects just because a bloke on the internet said that is the correct ratio. It could add a year or two to the time it takes to reach my objectives for the sake of a quid or two!

In 25 years I've made lots of mistakes. One of them was for a long while not testing out the highest price I can get. If anyone is getting all their quotes they will soon be full of average work.

If you are getting enough work charging £1 per window, then don't be discouraged by one person who says you are expensive. Sounds as if she would jump ship at the first sign of getting a cheaper quote if she did engage your services, so keep on following your instinct and charge what you feel comfortable with.

I know what I earn an hour and it is at the top of the scale quoted often on here. Some people are just better sales people than others. Does it not strike you as perverse that you are boasting that you lose 50% of your opportunities?

It may sound a bit proverbial, but I feel that contentment is the key. If you are content with what you charge, content with your clientele, content with your van and kit, content with your conversion rate and above all, content with your profit, you have cracked what running your business is about. If your business makes you happy and content with your lot in life, your business is a success for YOU.
