Dodgy email
« on: December 10, 2012, 05:08:49 pm »
Got an email via contact form on my website regarding pics I have used from internet .

Now I know that I should be.careful of using pics from the net but got email saying that if I did not remove within 7 days I would be charged £99 a month.

It was from RB Window Cleaning tried to google this name and found one in sidiothorpe . Clicked on web address via yell.com and 10 seconds later my laptop shuts down  automatically to prevent any damage.

Suspect but removed pics anyway email did not specify which pics as I had 6 images in total. Mike

Hi M&M

Thanks for removing the pictures.

I'm sorry you had problems with your pc but that has nothing to do with me emailing you.  As you said, it was through the contact form on your website, all I did was type the words. So please don't publish on a public forum that my company is sending out dodgy emails. You should maybe contact your web hosting company.

No links to my website work as it was taken down due to everybody stealing pictures from it.  Most, if not all my pictures have me in them, and I do not wish to be on everybody else's website.  It may seem harsh, or even mean not to let everybody else use them, but I actually paid somebody to take these pictures of me actually carrying out work for my company, RB Window Cleaning Limited.

As you removed all 6 images, I am assuming that all 6 were taken from the internet.  As a precaution you should know that all images on the internet are copyrighted.  If you use any image with a person in it then you must have a signed model release form by that person. The owner of the copyright has the right to charge whatever they feel fit.  I could charge £1000000, but then, you could maybe get Kate Moss to stand with a pole for that.

That's total trash what you're saying about using an image with a person in it needing their permission via model release form. What about my AV. I don't know who the turkey is doing that stupid dance but I haven't got his permission.

If you're having your pics used on other sites why don't you just watermark your pictures?

Do you really think when anyone posts a snap of a holiday scene on their Facebook page they obtain the permission of all the people in it, including the waiter, the pool boy, the group of girls from Lithuania, the Russians, Germans and the family from sunny Skegness?

Laws are no good if they're not enforceable which is pretty much what the gumph on this http://www.professionalphotographer.co.uk/Magazine/Downloads/Model-Release-Form page says.

Hi rob sorry if I have caused you any problems.

The email which may have caused probs was a second email from a different sender asking for royalties and money I assumed the emails I got including yours were in some way connected . In the email you sent me if you had informed me that you used this forum and linked me to your details i would have been more than happy to contact you privately .

As a regular on this forum i was posting as a warning to other users incase they suffered any problems themselves .

You have a right to be miffed if you have had trouble in the past . No hard feelings I hope .

But please note that in my second post i provided different details and indicated that after that email i had problems with PC and Phone .

PLEASE NOT I HAVE AMENDED THIS POST SINCE POSTING EARLIER IN ORDER TO COVER ALL ASPECTS IN 1 POST.  Mike
