update on 'dog in van'
« on: December 10, 2012, 04:30:19 pm »
5 or 6 weeks ago I posted on here about getting a dog and her joining me in the van.  Its been very stressfull but finally it is becoming easier.
What I do to keep her occupied on the days she's with me is i dont feed her until i leave the van.  This makes her associate me leaving with getting her dinner.  I also never feed her in a bowl.  Instead I stuff her food in her toys to make it harder to get out.  I have ow started to freeze them so that it takes her an hour to get all of her food.  She's has almost completely stoppe barking when I leave the van so I think she is finally learning that I will always come back.
Next task is to be able to leave her in the flat without barking so i can actually have a social life!
Cheers for all the tips everyone gave me when I first posted

Glad you're getting sorted mate. Guy in my area takes his dog (Jack Russel) with him. Gets a lot of custies moaning and has lost custies through this. Don't think his dog poops or p's all over the place, but it seems to really upset a lot of people. I don't like the bloke, so I'll be sure not to pass on any tips  ;D
No still don't understand, I must be thick

cheers chaps.  its certainly a learning curve.  i dont have kids so i couldnt compare.  obviously there are con's with having a dog but im gonna gonna come on here to talk about all the pro's.  its deffo a less productive day with the dog but its also a lot of fun.
she doesnt come with me every day, think i'd struggle with that

think the point M&M is making is once the dog is trained there will be no more hassle and a happy time, but kids remain a pain their whole life

sounds like you are doing well mate good stuff to the OP

That's rubbish. How do blind people drive, then?

Guys ! it's a bit of free advice ....it's illegal to carry a dog in the
Front seat ;-)
Why do people just slag off advice before checking the facts.
