set up my 40/40 system noticed the more you have waste closed the more water you produce was just wondering at what level others have waste flow open or shut.

do a test to see what waste to pure you are doing.also then check what your tds is doing.

yes because you are forcing the RO to produce pure water! what u need to do is find the optimum setting for to get your RO water tds down as much as possible with still producing a descent amount of water.

I have found that the best balance for me is slightly more waste than pure - around 55 waste to 45 pure. I have an inline tds meter which is pretty accurate so after a flush just balance it out on the tds meter.
The waste restrictor is a brass gate valve and I have marked roughly where it should be when I close it.
Measure the waste by diverting it into a 2 litre milk container for 45 secs and then do the same for the pure.

Don't forget reducing the waste too much will shorten the life of your membrane
