Hi Guys
A Custy is bringing round a roof blind for me to test clean, they have insect marks and are like a thick net material. Any recomendations for cleaning would be appreciated. Worried about curling and shrinkage.

I don't know whether this is any help. One of my customers told me about cleaning verticle blinds te one day. Apparantly you take the plastic chains off them and remove the weights at the bottom and the plastic insert at the top of the blind. Roll them up tight and secure with an elastic band. Put this with the rest of them inside a cotton pillow case and put on a low heat wash in your washing machine.

Take them out and hang them when still damp up to the window. Apparantly they will look curled for a little bit, but the weights in the bottom will straighten them back out. If you wait till there dry before hanging, you won't get the kinks out.

Even if you don't use this method for yourself, pass it on to your customer and earn some brownie points.

You can only do that with Certain vertical blinds.

Others you will damage big time.using that method


I would be very careful with roof blinds


As far as I am aware the manufacturers only recommend Vac only with an upholstery brush.


Roof blinds are very expensive/

Sorry, best not pass tip to your customers then!  See how misinformed some people are. Having said that, it's surprising the people who's upholstery i have cleaned, having said that in the past they have washed the cushions in the machine even though dry clean only.

One washed her cushions the one day and the colour from the trim bled into the material.

I went to one persons house,

Her previous blinds had been machine washable.

She asked the Salesperson if her new blinds were washable.

The salesperson replied they were.

Customer did not read instructions and Salesperson did not explain.
Customer put blinds in washing machine and then Iron as shape had become distorted.


£500 of blinds now useless.

The blinds were washable but with warm soapy water Blind placed flat on towelon flat surface and wiped over with mild soapy water,and then hung up to dry out of the sun

Hi  All went well with the blinds. They were quite plasticyed unlike conventional vertical blinds. After testing for curling. I washed on flat surface with sponge and then showered them off, this rinsed through the fine holes, hung out to dry.
Custy well pleased.....  passed on the iron!
