Normal ?
« on: November 27, 2012, 05:43:42 pm »
Just had to stick new brushes in one of my vac motors,as it tripped the switch on a job today.
Brushes were worn right down.Replaced them with new ones,is it normal to get a slight clicking noise when turning motor by hand ? Assuming it's just them bedding in, also getting a bit of arcing , but also assume it's going to be like that until they get bedded in .
Bearings were like new, no movement in the shaft, gave the contact part of the shaft a spin while holfding some fine emery cloth there to clean it up.
Got one on order ,as a spare  ;D

;D Was a bit of a mare changing them if I am honest, female spades on the motor, old bushes had male spade connector on the metal housing, new ones didn't.So I had to wire up a small wire with a male spade on each end.
All good now though.

I always used to run vacs for an hour on the bench to bed in the brushes. If the vac is on the machine already run for an hour with the recovery tank lid and waste valve open so the vac is not under load.

The best thing is if you have access to a 110v transformer is to run the motor for 1/2 hour on 110. You need to make an adapter.
God must love stupid people---He made so many.
