Polypropylene white long pile not cleaning
« on: November 27, 2012, 02:24:38 pm »
Rug.

I Tried with shockwave, 45mg to 3 litres tap warm water.

Let it dwell 30mins +

Rinsed very high heat (magma on full with hot in tank)

Not much effect on grey traffic areas at all.

I've tried mixing some Cleansmart hd micro splitter into the shockwave solution and am just waiting for it to dwell now.

Any ideas if this dosnt work?

The traffic areas are still very dark grey (more black than white!)

Joe,

You may well find it is just 'traffic lane grey'. If this is the case then you're not going to get rid of it. Do you have a dryer. Hit the rug with this and see how it looks as its drying.

Thanks Fran.

I dont have a dryer but I have a few days before I have to give the rug back.

Is there a limit to how heavy I can go with an oxidiser? Would I have to rinse the oxidiser off if I used more than recommended dose?

Is there any reason why I shouldn't bleach the hell out of it?

The owner has said do what needs to be done. It looks way to poor to be down on the floor.

just leaving these things to dwell does not necessarily do the job... You need to agitate the bejeezus out of the rug and solution as well.
Everyday this forum slips further from God.  :'(

I gave it about 3-5 mins agitation with sebo duo.

Is this enough?

Do you have any other means of agitation. The duo obviously isn't enough.

Having seen it I would now say it's still dirty and not what I previously suggested.

Give it double strength and agitate the hell out of it as hector said.

I just re-did it with shockwave and agitated the hell out of it. Still not much better, if at all.

Mpower spotter isnt touching it. Microsplitter spotter isnt touching it.

All I have is a duo unfortunatly.

I would add an oxidiser to help with this.

Here is a shagpile I did with an oxidiser boosted shampoo.

Joe, sometimes on polyprop carpets you will have dust so badly embedded into the fibres it would not be removed by vacuuming, and if you have not loosened it your wand will not suck it out either.  When wetted, this dust/fluff goes dark and really shows.

A duo will not touch it; either a rotary with stiff polyprop brush or a big CRB machine is the tool for the job.  You'll see exactly what I mean, the first time you ever agitate a polyprop carpet with a proper agitation machine - it will be producing endless balls of black fluff that you didn't even know was there!!

Hot ultrapak renovate works best on oily polypropylene IMO.

have you tested for soil transfer. simply get a white terry towel and spray some standard splitter on the terry and rub aggressively for a few seconds. is there a transfer on to the towel? repeat with detergent and then repeat with a water based solvent, if your cloth is still clean then your wasting your time with any crb or rotary, if the towel has soil transfer then you should of bought a bigger boat,  ;D

apologies if you have all ready done this and are getting a transfer.
