Why Do People?
« on: November 23, 2012, 09:01:20 pm »

Walk around a set of hose ramps they are clearly their for their own safety.  ???
I counted them this morning, 6 out of ten walked around them.
I wonder what the claim situation would be if someone triped on the hoses as they were trying to avoid walking over the ramps?

I think some people need idiot boards to tell them to use the ramp,
I wonder what the legalities are regarding this, maybe an idea to put signs up
rather than find out after a slip/trip/fall.
Isnt your son a lawyer Simon, maybe you could check with him how we stand.

Mostly kids on their bmx that use them mostly I find.

Hoses are dangerous, you can not prevent people from not paying attention, so DON"T use hose...

It's mad how people would rather go out of their way to step over the hose than walk over the ramp.

What we do now is use the ramp (or two ramps) and 3 of the folding "Warning cleaning in progress" signs and barrier tape.  We put a sign next to the ramps at both sides, and on the one nearest the truck barriers tape to the van door handles (ie passenger and side door), creating a triangle in front of the truckmount door, which also covers you from anyone walking up to the machine.  From the other sign on the opposite side of the ramp we run a barrier tape to another folding sign placed against the wall or path edge.  This 'forces' people to walk over the ramps and makes sure you're as fully covered as you can be.

Maybe People see them as 'hose protectors' not ramps for pedestrians. Lus I don't think they look sturdy enough, people would rather use thier own judgment and trust what they know then step over the hoses but keep thier feet on the tarmac.

Just out of interest.... Why didn't you ask them to move the car and pull onto the drive?

People don't use them because they feel safer with what they are familiar with.
It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

i always thought we put the ramps over pipes so that pushchairs and wheelchairs could get past, surely there a waste of time for people that can step over a pipe. i wouldn't use the ramp myself if i was a passer by as i'm more than capable of stepping over a little pipe. theres plenty of access ramps in other places but i use the steps, surely its the same principle.

Mike the van is too long for the drive and the tail would have been in the pavement causing yet another challenge for our sharp minded, safety conscious pedestrian frends to have to negotiate ;D

I get the same thing

Instinctively I would do the same. In a split second judgement I would be thinking. What's that ramp made of? Is it sturdy? Is it slippery? Will it wobble?

Avoid all

Step over hose. Job done

Just for laughs places put handles on doors that open outwards and then have a huge sign on the door saying PUSH. See what people do.

It's not expensive, you just can't afford it.

Put a ladder to the Curb, put up against a building and watch almost everyone walk into the road and risk getting hit by a car or truck, rather than walk unhindered and safe under the ladder.

Nuts.

I used to use one and had the same problem
The manufactresrs shoud have "Ok to walk on" or similar written on the ramp.
Might help.

I've had 1 person complain about hoses over the path, trying to push a buggy thru the hose, instead of over it. Man u trackie gave an indication of their inteligence. Pointed out the path across the road was clear of obstructions, and recieved some verbal...hay ho
